Your new favorite coming-of-age film is almost here. Netflix's You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah, a brand new comedy directed by Sammi Cohen, arrives on the streamer later this month — and Teen Vogue has the exclusive first look at the movie's trailer.
You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah is adapted from the 2005 YA novel of the same name, written by Fiona Rosenbloom. The new film stars Idina Menzel, Adam Sandler, his teenage daughters Sunny and Sadie, Samantha Loraine, and Sarah Sherman. Sunny Sandler plays the lead role of Stacy Friedman, who is in the midst of planning her dream bat mitzvah.
“My bat mitzvah determines the rest of my life," Stacy says as the trailer opens. "If I have a kick-ass party, doors would open… and I just think Dua Lipa would make the party perfect.” Her parents Danny and Bree (Sandler and Menzel) aren't too convinced by her meticulous slideshow proposal, though.
Stacy and her best friend Lydia Rodriguez Katz (Lorraine) have been planning their epic bat mitzvahs for as long as they can remember. Lydia is plotting out a Candyland theme, while Stacy is painstakingly dreaming up a show-stopping New York City theme. Her mood board has everything: big entrance inspo, potential nail designs, ambitious musical acts like Olivia Rodrigo, and of course, Dua Lipa. Right now, the only things dominating Stacy's world are her mitzvah and her crush on Andy Goldfarb.
“One day, Andy Goldfarb will be mine, and you will have a cool boyfriend, too, and then we'll have adjoining lofts in Tribeca,” Stacy says to Lydia in the trailer. “In Taylor Swift's building," agrees Lydia.
But then, Stacy's world comes crashing down — is that Lydia about to kiss Andy at a pool party? The incident leads to a devastating, “sh*t just got real” friend breakup that threatens to upend Stacy and Lydia's carefully curated rites of passage. One popular boy plus one spiral of intense middle school drama equals a true test of friendship. Growing up is no party.

The movie explores the stress of planning a coming-of-age event and coming-of-age itself; Stacy and Lydia are in for a heartwarming and hilarious lesson in maturity, forgiveness, and understanding.
