Justin Bieber is not the only celeb skipping the Met Gala 2025 in favor of sports. Despite girlfriend Kylie Jenner making an appearance, Timothée Chalamet was nowhere to be seen at the famed event, where he once served as co-chair. The reason? Basketball.
As stars made their way onto the Met Gala 2025 red carpet last night, Kylie Jenner was accompanied on the blue carpet — not by Timothée Chalamet, but by Ferragamo's Maximilian Davis, who was the mastermind behind her sheer corseted look.
It isn't unlike Chalamet and Jenner to walk red carpets separately, so we waited for a glimpse of the two together to no avail — Timothée Chalamet was notably absent from the Met Gala 2025. The star, who was at the F1 Grand Prix of Miami just the day before the fundraiser, decided to skip the event to enjoy a basketball game at home, and he proudly documented it on his Instagram stories.
During Met night, Chalamet posted a series of pictures of himself surrounded by friends watching game one of the Eastern Conference semifinals series between the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics. The star was enjoying the game both on an iPad and on a large projector, seemingly via French TV. (Judging from the extension cord in his photos, it looks like the star might have actually flown to France ahead of the Gala.)
While Kylie Jenner is somewhat of Met Gala royalty, having attended the event eight times in total, the Dune actor has only graced the Met Gala stairs once before, in 2021, when he paired a Haider Ackermann satin tuxedo with sweatpants and white Chuck Taylor sneakers.
Seeing as the pair has been more and more public with their romance, many anticipated Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner would make their couple red carpet debut at the Met Gala 2025. But, alas, it was not time. (Hey, at least the Knicks won in overtime!)
Prior to the Met Gala, Jenner and Chalamet were seen enjoying a courtside date in Los Angeles, watching the Lakers play the Minnesota Timberwolves and sneaking a few kisses and hugs in between. At this point, I guess if we want an official red carpet debut, we'd better call the NBA.
