Barbie fans can now add an official Weird Barbie to their collection.
Barbie's parent company Mattel unveiled this week its latest doll that's inspired by Kate McKinnon's character in the Barbie movie. Weird Barbie — the doll — takes on McKinnon's likeness and features a choppy haircut, drawings on her face, mismatched clothes, and snakeskin boots. In photos taken of Weird Barbie, the doll is shown in a split — much like her character in Barbie.
“If anyone knows anything about keeping it weird, it’s Weird Barbie, a breakout character from Barbie The Movie,” Mattel wrote on its website.
The company explained that the doll “wears an outfit inspired by one you’ll see in the feature film,” along with “short tousled hair and markings on her face to emulate a doll that’s been played with just a little too much.”

McKinnon's Weird Barbie became a beloved character in the film and was often shown in a split or with her leg up on the wall. Barbie director Greta Gerwig later revealed that McKinnon wasn't actually performing the splits herself and that it was a practical effect created by production designer Sarah Greenwood.
“Sarah who did the set design was like, 'I've made all these holes in the wall where she can put her real leg in, and then we'll rig the other leg up,” Gerwig said.
Despite the popularity of the movie version of Weird Barbie, some fans said that an authentic Weird Barbie has to be made by the doll's owner.
“They should’ve just sold a regular Barbie with all the tools you might need to make her into weird barbie,” one person tweeted.
