Ever since The White Lotus season three ended in April 2025, people have been anticipating The White Lotus season four—and we have officially checked in. (And some have also checked out…)
Whether you loved or loathed the third installment of Mike White's anthology series, there's no denying that The White Lotus universe only got bigger during its latest season. According to HBO, The White Lotus season three continuously broke viewership records for the show, with 6.2 million viewers tuning in for the finale, a 51% increase from the season two finale from 2022 and a 158% increase from the season three premiere, which was already the show's best overall opening.
If you are dying—no pun intended—to know more about The White Lotus season four, we've combed the internet for every single clue to answer your burning questions.
Is The White Lotus season 4 confirmed?
Yes! In January 2025, weeks before season three even premiered, HBO announced that The White Lotus had been renewed for a season four, with Mike White attached to the project as director and writer again.
What will The White Lotus season 4 be about?
Mike White has already said that “there’s always room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels,” so that's what The White Lotus season four will likely be about—alongside more interconnected drama, of course.
The official season four logline shared by HBO confirms the show will follow “a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival.”
Speaking on the series' official podcast, White admitted he'd actually like to go back to the beginning for the show's next season. “[I want to do] something a little bit back to the first season where it's satirizing stuff that I know about—you know, art and criticism, movies, fame and celebrity,” he said, teasing the Cannes tie-in. “Like a film festival type of thing or something like that, or like an art world sort of situation. It just feels like that would be some kind of new theme to get into that's maybe a little less heady than what we just did, but still have some juice to it.”
Where is The White Lotus season 4 being filmed?
The White Lotus season four will take place in France. Speaking to Deadline in February 2025, executive vice president of HBO programming Francesca Orsi already teased that “chances are somewhere in Europe."
HBO has confirmed that filming will mainly take place on the French Riviera, with locations including Cannes, St. Tropez, and Monaco. Some filming will also take place in Paris, but “the story will remain along the Côte d'Azur,” HBO says.
Though it was previously reported that The White Lotus does have a partnership with The Four Seasons, season four will film in the Airelles Château de la Messardière as the White Lotus du Cap and the Hôtel Martinez as the White Lotus Cannes.
As for future locations. While the show is headed to Europe for the fourth installment, White previously admitted to potentially wanting to shoot a season of The White Lotus in Australia. “My dream would be to hit every continent, so yeah, this is like its own continent basically. We kind of have to come to Australia if we keep going,” he said. “It would be so fun. Obviously, there’s a huge wealth of talent here, and the beauty is inarguable, so it feels like it checks all the boxes.”
What we do know is that despite many people's wishes to get a wintry White Lotus season, we will be sticking to balmy tropical weather for the time being because, well, Mike White hates the cold. “I feel confident we’ll never do a season in the cold,” Bernad said on the Bill Simmons podcast. “Never say never, but I would be surprised.”
The creator also admitted on the series' official podcast that season three was initially intended to be filmed in Japan, so revisiting that idea for a future season could be an option. “We were scouting in Thailand, and Thailand was kind of just a stalking horse because I really wanted to shoot in Japan because I'd had more fun in Japan the times I'd visited,” White said.
When is The White Lotus season 4 premiering?
At the time of writing, The White Lotus season four remains in production and does not yet have a premiere date. The project began filming in April 2026 and is expected to wrap in October of the same year. For reference, The White Lotus season three wrapped production in the first half of 2024 after six months of filming and premiered on February 16, 2025, so we can likely expect a late 2027 premiere.
Who will be in the cast of The White Lotus season 4?
The first two cast members announced for The White Lotus season four were AJ Michalka (yes, of Aly & AJ) and Alexander Ludwig, though details about their characters are being kept under wraps.
Following reports that Helena Bonham Carter was “in early talks for a starring role," the British actor was also announced as part of the cast for The White Lotus season 4 in late January 2026. However, news broke in April, just a week after filming began, that she had left the show and that her role would be recast. The reason for her parting? She was apparently not a fit.
“With filming just underway on season four of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” HBO said in a statement. “The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten, and will be recast in the coming weeks. HBO, the producers, and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”
Bonham Carter might be out, but those still in include American actor Chris Messina, whom you might recognize from titles like Julie & Julia and The Mindy Project, as well as model-turned-actor Marissa Long. Details about their characters are also under wraps.
Also part of the main cast are Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz, as well as newcomers Caleb Jonte Edwards and Dylan Ennis.
Additional cast also includes Max Greenfield, Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Frida Gustavsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer, and Laura Smet.
As HBO has confirmed, these actors will portray a new crop of guests checking into the French White Lotus hotel, but there is also a chance that we might see some familiar faces in The White Lotus season four.
While Jon Gries's Greg/Gary is now safely tucked away in Thailand with his secret safe, he could be brought back again—though he doubts it. "I don’t think [I'm coming back], but I don’t know so," he told The Hollywood Reporter. “All I can say is, every time I leave, I assume it’s over.”
"There’s no trying to predict anything Mike White does," Gries added. “I never presumed I’d be in season two. Same for season three. Everything he does has an element of surprise to it. Yes, I would love to come back. But does the book on Greg seem like it’s complete? I can’t tell you.”
Another character now with the funds to afford a White Lotus vacation is Natasha Rothwell's Belinda—and the actor seems keen to return. Speaking to Variety, the actor said: “I have not talked to Mike about coming back. I know nothing. I’m like Jon Snow. But when I was reading, I underlined and circled the line in the script that was like, ‘I want to be hard to find. We’ve got to get out of here now.’”
Rothwell added: “I think it would be fun to see her life get more complicated from this bad… from this decision. I don’t think it’s a bad decision. I think it’s a decision that made her compromise on her morals, but the juice was worth the squeeze.”
There are also rumors that an all-star season could be headed our way, which White told THR that he’d “love” to do. “Assuming this keeps going and people like it and HBO likes it, it would be cool,” he said. “[But] because all of these people end up becoming huge, huge stars. A lot of these kids that are easy to get are suddenly not so easy to get … but hopefully, they’d come back.”
Is The White Lotus season 4 introducing any changes?
Indeed, though they don't involve resurrection as some viewers would like. For starters, Mike White wants to do away with some familiar imagery. “For the fourth season. I want to get a little bit out of the ‘crashing waves against rocks’ vernacular," he said in a video recapping the season three finale.
Another major change will be the show's trademark soundtrack as composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer announced via the New York Times that he was leaving the show after three seasons, citing creative differences with Mike White over the season three theme song.
This post will continue to be updated as news about The White Lotus season 4 breaks.
