Nintendo's Legend of Zelda live-action movie is inching closer and closer. The Japanese juggernaut has already cast its two leads, and production has officially begun on the blockbuster hopeful.
Following in the footsteps of The Last of Us and the Super Mario Bros. Movie in the 2020s and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Resident Evil in the 2000s, The Legend of Zelda is the latest game IP to get the cinematic treatment, and production will fly to our screens faster than Link on a Paraglider.
A joint venture from Sony and Nintendo, the Legend of Zelda live-action movie will be directed by Wes Ball, known for his work on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and The Maze Runner. The film is being produced by the original game creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, who also produced 2023's Super Mario Bros. Movie, in tandem with Sony's Avi Arad, who is behind Tom Holland's Spider-Man live-action movies as well as the Spider-Verse animated movies.

What will the Legend of Zelda live-action movie be about?
The Zelda IP is ever-expanding, so it's hard to know what exactly will be the premise of the live-action movie, as details around the plot are being kept under wraps. That said, should the movie act as an introduction to the world of the games, we can expect to learn about the lore of the Kingdom of Hyrule and the Royal Family of Hyrule, particularly Princess Zelda. Despite their name, the games are told from the point of view of a silent protagonist, a Hylian hero named Link, on his quest to save the Kingdom and thus the princess.
Who is in the cast of the Legend of Zelda live-action movie?
Though there was much speculation around Euphoria star Hunter Schafer potentially being cast in the Legend of Zelda live-action movie, Nintendo has announced the castings for the titular roles, and Schafer is nowhere to be seen.
On July 16, 2025, Nintendo announced that actors Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth have been cast as Zelda and Link, respectively, via X.
“I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of ‘The Legend of Zelda,’ Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san,” the post, presumably signed by Shigeru Miyamoto, reads. “I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”
Both actors hail from England. Ainsworth boasts credits such as Pinocchio and The Haunting of Bly Manor, while Bragason has appeared in Three Girls, The Jetty, Renegade Nell, and The Radleys.
