Taylor Swift is taking action and Travis Kelce is speaking out about the deadly shooting that took place during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade this past Wednesday.
On February 14, thousands of Kansas City Chiefs fans made their way to the city’s Union Station to celebrate the team’s fourth Super Bowl win before shooters opened fire on the crowd, leaving at least one person dead and more than 20 injured. The deceased has been identified as KKFI radio DJ and mother-of-two Elizabeth “Lisa” Lopez-Galvan.
Travis Kelce addressed the shooting on his X account on February 14, just hours after the incident, writing: “I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today. My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me.”

According to CNN, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas confirmed during a news conference that Kelce and his fellow Chiefs players, as well as staff and coaches, had been accounted for and were able to safely evacuate the scene.
Prior to the parade, the Kansas City Missouri Police Department issued a public statement urging people attending “to be prepared.” The statement advised parade-goers to “keep a close eye on children,” “dress warmly,” and take public transportation. They also warned attendees that “cell phones probably will not work.”
Taylor Swift, who notably made her way from Japan to Las Vegas to support Kelce during the Super Bowl, did not attend the parade, having already flown to Australia to continue her Eras World Tour. However, according to an article published by US Weekly, Kansas City officials had allegedly advised the star’s team to skip the parade “just to keep everybody safe and make things a little bit easier.”
Though Swift has yet to issue a public statement regarding the shooting, she has donated $100,000, split into two $50,000 donations, to the family of Lopez-Galvan, leaving a small message on the GoFundMe page. “Sending my deepest sympathies and condolences in the wake of your devastating loss. With love, Taylor Swift,” the singer’s message reads for both entries. Swift’s representatives confirmed to both Variety and Billboard that the star was behind the donations.
After the shooting, the Kansas City Chiefs released a statement on social media, where the team thanked the local law enforcement officers and first responders on the scene and shared condolences for the victims and their families, as well as the city as a whole. “We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today's parade and rally,” the statement reads.

According to CNN, at least half of the victims injured during the parade shooting are children, several of whom are being treated at the Children’s Mercy Hospital; a vigil was held on the evening of Thursday, February 15 at plaza nearby the hospital.
Per USA Today, police chief Stacey Graves said during a press conference that it was a personal dispute between multiple people that spurred the shooting. Police detained three juveniles on the scene — two of them are still in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
