After months of speculation, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco announced their engagement on December 11, 2024, via Instagram. “Forever begins now,” Gomez wrote on her main Instagram grid, showing off a picture of her marquise diamond ring with a simple manicure.
The next photo showed what appears to be the picnic proposal with Gomez's favorite: Taco Bell. Gomez also shared a selfie of herself showing off the ring and a picture of the Blanco kissing her forehead while she showed off the ring while lying on the pink-carpeted floor. “Hey wait… that’s my wife,” Blanco commented on the post. While he did not share a post of his own, Blanco did reshare Gomez's last slide to his stories.

Blanco was not the only one showing his love in the comment section of the long-anticipated engagement announcement. “yes, I will be the flower girl,” Taylor Swift also commented. “Waiiiitttt hold on 😱😱😱😱😱❤️❤️❤️,” Cardi B wrote. “Ahhhhhhhh yes yes yes!! News of Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's engagement arrives as speculation around their relationship is at an all-time high. The duo first sparked engagement rumors in August 2024 after Gomez posted a bathroom selfie of the two with her ring finger covered by a heart emoji, which made people think she was hiding an engagement ring.
The photo arrived just after popular gossip account Deuxmoi posted a “blind item” that people interpreted to be about Gomez and Blanco. The item claimed a famous couple had gotten engaged over the Fourth of July weekend after a year of dating. Gomez seemingly put rumors to rest by sharing another bathroom selfie with Blanco shortly after, this time fully showing her ring-less hand.
Prior to publicly confirming their engagement, both Gomez and Blanco had opened up about their desire to tie the knot and eventually start a family. Earlier this year, Gomez admitted she was planning on adopting before even meeting Blanco, with the idea of starting a family by 35. (Gomez is now 32.)

Since then, Gomez has revealed she can’t carry her own children and admitted that while it took some time for her to get used to what motherhood will look like for her, she's more than happy with her path now.
“I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me,” Gomez admitted. "It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

"I know what people can do to people I love," Gomez said in an interview. “My own fans, who I adore and feel like have shaped who I am, will say the most hurtful things to me about how I live my life.” However, she admitted that Blanco did not care. "He has the strength in him that none of that noise fazes him."
