Who is in the cast of Scream 7?

The cast of Scream 7 has had many shakeups since the film was announced. Most recently, Variety reported that Jasmin Savoy Brown is reprising their role as Mindy Meeks-Martin in the upcoming movie. Neve Campbell is also set to return as Sidney Prescott. Campbell notably pulled out from Scream 6 following salary disputes with the studio. Courteney Cox was in talks to reprise her role as Gale Weathers for the movie. Though she said in September that she was “still not officially signed on," a Variety report has since confirmed the actor will once again return to the franchise.

Not only that but Scream 7 has also tapped Matthew Lillard from the original 1996 movie to return. Lillard played Stuart Macher, a.k.a. Stu, in the first Scream movie. He was Ghostface's accomplice and was killed by none other than Campbell's Sidney Prescott, so it remains to be seen what Lillard's role will be in the upcoming movie.

However, details about his role are being kept under wraps.

Arquette played Deputy Dewey Riley in the original Scream. He was married to Courteney Cox when playing on-screen lovers during the film. He also appeared in Scream 2, Scream 3, and Scream 4, before the character's death in Scream 5.

We also know that former stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega will both not be a part of Scream 7. Barrera was fired from the franchise in November 2023 after posting in support of Palestine on social media. “It was the darkest and hardest year of my life, and I had to reevaluate everything. There were times when I felt like my life was over," she told The Independent a year after the incident. Meanwhile, Ortega exited Scream 7 the same month, citing scheduling differences with the shooting of season 2 of Wednesday.

Scream 7 was directed by the original Scream scriptwriter Kevin Williamson. It marks his first time directing a movie from the franchise.

Williamson took over from Christopher Landon, who was first unveiled as director in August 2023, only to announce his exit from the project in December 2023. “I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited Scream 7 weeks ago. This will disappoint some and delight others,” he said at the time. "It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on. I have nothing more to add to the conversation other than I hope Wes’ legacy thrives and lifts above the din of a divided world. What he and Kevin created is something amazing and I was honored to have even the briefest moment basking in their glow.”

Production for Scream 7 reportedly began in December 2024, and Williamson confirmed that filming for the movie was underway in Atlanta as of January 2025 via Instagram.
