If there’s one person who didn’t stop getting dressed up because of the pandemic, it’s Saweetie. The “Best Friend” rapper has been rewriting the rules of her style and the evolution has been satisfying to witness. The Bay Area rapper graduated from the University of Southern California in 2016. The following year, her “Icy Girl” freestyle went viral and she’s been performing and doing music ever since. But her brand goes way beyond the music: She's a social media content connoisseur, a beauty, and a fashion girl. While she grows in her career, her style grows with her.
Saweetie describes her style as "bipolar." “You just never know what you're going to get. Sometimes I'm a tomboy, sometimes I'm sexy, sometimes I'm business chic. But, I feel like there's no limit to what Saweetie wears,” she told Teen Vogue. She goes as far as to say her closet looks like multiple people probably live at her house because of diverse clothes, but it’s all just hers.
Saweetie has had many head-turning looks but her outfit planning starts from the very basics. Saweetie tells Teen Vogue that the absolute essential thing every icy girl should have in her closet is a comfortable thong. “You want to be comfortable, but then sometimes you don’t want the panty line to show,” she says. Because, including undergarments, Saweetie is going to make sure she serves from head to toe.
When the pandemic hit and red carpets, concerts, and appearances stopped, Saweetie didn’t. In fact, many have dubbed her the “Queen of Quarantine” because of her creative and innovative content. Saweetie kept us entertained with Birkin bag skits, freestyles, fashion collabs, and even turning herself into a gaming character, a stylish one of course. The rapper also unveiled her sunglass collab with Quay just in time for summer. From rimless specs to bright studded out frames to oversized ones, the USC alum has her hands in it all.
Though her style has evolved, there are a few things that remain consistent including her long acrylic nails (which we love), her colorful hair, always laid baby hairs, and a killer makeup look to complement her outfit. AS the host for the 2021 MTV EMAs, which took place in Budapest, Saweetie kept things more than interesting. From the get-go, the singer wowed the crowd with two red carpet ensembles — pictured above — but the wardrobe changes did not stop there.
