Sasha Obama just wants to go back, back to 1999! The former First Daughter attended Charli XCX and Troye Sivan's Sweat tour in a throwback-inspired outfit that would have been right at home in the late '90s and early 2000s, complete with one of the most popular accessories of that time: the chunky belt.
Obama, who attended with her older sister Malia and some friends, donned a pair of True Religion skinny jeans tucked into knee-high boots; the instantly recognizable horseshoe back pockets were a massive trend in the late 2000s. She paired them with a patterned mesh long-sleeved top in shades of navy, white, and red and styled the look with a red crocodile pattern shoulder bag and the aforementioned oversized belt, which she placed atop her hips and not through the belt loops — definitely the most popular belt placement of the Y2K era, whether you were wearing a flowy skirt or a pair of cropped cargo pants. Sorry, what year is it again?
Sasha Obama has always been a fashion girl and her sister Malia is showing us she is one too. As for Malia, she opted for a denim miniskirt, plaid sleeveless top, and knee-high heeled boots, plus a green coat on her arm, potentially as a nod to Brat's signature shade. You can see the looks here.
This has been the year of on-theme dressing for concerts. It's not a new trend, per se, but social media — spurred in part by the Eras tour — has made it a must. We've seen fans in cowboy boots and sparkly dresses a la young Taylor Swift, bows and platform shoes for Sabrina Carpenter's Short ‘N Sweet tour, all silver everything for Beyoncé's Renaissance tour, and pop-punk looks at Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts tour. The Obama sisters were right on trend for the Sweat tour, blending the 2000s with 2024 in their own unique way. We're taking notes!
