Following Spring's "Atlas of Anatomy" collection, the VPL Fall invitation offered a shadowy image that was a bit more challenging to resolve. But as the designer Victoria Bartlett explained before her show, the image was actually a shadow print of figures standing behind a curtain (turned on it's side), so she hadn't in fact strayed too far from her corporeal focus: "That is VPL -- it never leaves, it's always there." The print reappeared on dresses throughout a collection that, true to form, didn't seem like an obvious choice for shy and retiring types. (It's hard to hide when you're wearing a cutout patchwork leotard or silver bandage bra!) However, shadow girls needn't fear: Bartlett collaborated with the Icelandic accessories design duo Shoplifter & Edda for a closing series of what she termed "body masks" -- textured corsets and bodysuits made from silvered human hair!
