Beyoncé might have forgotten to explicitly thank daughter Rumi Carter in her AOTY Grammys speech, but she put the 7-year-old front and center during her Cowboy Carter tour opening night.
Beyoncé officially began her Cowboy Carter tour on April 28, 2025, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and she made sure both her daughters had their moment to shine during the special night. Blue Ivy Carter, who made her tour debut in 2023 during the Renaissance tour, has a more significant role as a dancer in the new tour and baby Rumi also got a moment of her own during the inaugural show.
In the middle of Act III, Rumi joined Beyoncé and Blue Ivy on stage to perform “PROTECTOR,” and her contribution was so wholesome that it even made Beyoncé break out of character on stage.
The performance kicks off with Blue Ivy and Beyoncé, clad in custom Burberry looks, in a pyramidal formation with dancers, wearing DiPetsa, surrounding them. Before the first chorus, the 7-year-old joined her mother and sister onstage, going directly into Beyoncé's arms and falling into her embrace, which Blue Ivy also reciprocates.
The formation then breaks and Beyoncé and Rumi step forward, with her mother singing directly to her. As captured by concertgoers, Rumi was all smiles while doing bits of choreography, excitedly waving at the crowd.
Towards the end of the song, she turned and suddenly hugged her mother, which made Beyoncé speechless. The superstar immediately stopped the song from the cuteness overload, even letting out an endeared chuckle before going for the full grin while hugging her daughter back all with Blue Ivy watching from behind, also endeared. (You can see the moment here.)
“Beautiful job,” a teary eyed Beyoncé says, before Rumi is ushered off stage by her older sister, with Bey raising her hand to her chest in “can't stand the cuteness” mode.
Not only did Rumi made mom and sister emotional, but also fans all around the world. “Petition to have Rumi in all the shows. Such charisma! Such grace! Such beauty!” someone commented under a fan video in Brazilian. “My heart just sank seeing her smile like that,” another fan commented in another post of the moment.
Over on X, people had similar reactions. “I’m sobbing,” a fan said. “This is so beautiful omg,” another person added. “She's so cute, i know she must've been begging for weeks to get up there,” a third one noted.
“Mom and big sis are so tender and accommodating towards her. Not surprising; rather very heartwarming to witness,” another person wrote. “[There's] no bond like the bond between daughters and a mother who loves them so deeply,” someone finally said.
Of course, the decision to have Rumi on stage for “PROTECTOR” is not just TK. The 7-year-old's vocals are actually featured on the original Cowboy Carter track and, last year, she became the youngest female artist to ever chart on the Billboard Hot 100 with it. (Previously, Blue Ivy held the record for “Brown Skin Girl,” off The Lion King: The Gift.)
We don't know if Rumi's cameo was reserved for opening night only or if we'll get to see her in any (or all) of the remaining 31 stops of the tour but, given the crowd's positive reaction, there's a great chance of the latter. After all, back in 2023, Beyoncé revealed that Blue Ivy's cameo on the Renaissance tour was supposed to be one-time-and-done thing but it eventually became integral to the tour.
