Every time a new season of Bridgerton begins, fans wonder if this will finally be the season Regé-Jean Page will make a cameo appearance as Duke Simon Basset.
After all, the duke is married to Daphne Bridgerton, who has, in the past, occasionally pops up to help her siblings find true love. But according to the Black Bag actor, he's got no plans to return to the Netflix series — like, none at all.
When asked recently about coming back for Bridgerton season 4 (or seasons 5, 6, and onward), Page deflected and told Entertainment Tonight that he's thrilled for his former cast mates. “I’m very happy to support everyone who’s in the show,” he said. “Everyone’s finding fantastic success both with the show and personal projects, I’m just super happy to say that.”
OK, so it's not an outright no, but reading between the lines, it's pretty obvious he's not interested. Plus, season 4 is well underway and Page's onscreen wife, Phoebe Dynevor, didn't appear at all in season three; that might mean there isn't necessarily room for a Daphne-and-Simon storyline in the upcoming season.
The actor has addressed Bridgerton return rumors before. In 2022, he told Variety that he'd be OK with the Bridgerton crew re-casting his role; he's happy with how things ended for Simon and Daphne.
“They’re free to do as they like,” Page said at the time. “Shonda [Rhimes] and I had a wonderful conversation at the end of season one. We were quite happy with how we stuck the landing on that one.” He also shot down rumors of a return after he hung out with his costar, Jonathan Bailey, saying that while he had a lovely time catching up, he wasn't planning on going back to the show.
However, one role Regé-Jean Page could take on is 007, the beyond iconic British Secret Service agent James Bond. (He's currently starring opposite a former Bond, Pierce Brosnan, in his new spy movie Black Bag.) His name has been floated multiple times to take over the role from Daniel Craig, but the actor also told ET that “it’s not something I’ve thought about very much." Page may not have thought about slipping into Bond's tuxedo, but we'd be very happy if he did.
