Edvin Ryding's recent casting announcement in the forthcoming Hunger Games film has been met with unending support from his biggest cheerleader: former co-star Omar Rudberg.

On July 25, the Lionsgate-produced film franchise confirmed on X that it had rounded out the casting for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, with Edvin Ryding, Iris Apatow, Jax Guerrero, and Sandra Forster. The star-packed film is based on the latest book of the same name by the franchise's author, Suzanne Collins, and follows the 50th Hunger Games in which a young Haymitch Abernathy competes.

While the world has just found out about the latest casting announcement, it seems that Omar Rudberg has known for a bit about his Young Royals co-star's role in the film already. In a series of posts on X following the official announcement, Rudberg wrote, “Can’t wait to share some of the news I have for you…”

In another post, Rudberg, without mentioning Ryding by name, told how he first found out that his friend had been cast in the franchise. “I go hey what u up to?” Rudberg wrote in an X post. “He [Ryding] goes nothing just chilling watching a movie. I go what movie. He goes hunger games, you know just getting ready. I go for what? He smiles and that’s when I threw my phone away and he laughs and I’m gagged.”

A follower and fan account then responded to Rudberg's post, writing “imagine your friend casually telling you theyre acting in THE hunger games thats crazy.” And Rudberg responded, writing, “I know I literally have a friend that is going to be in THE hunger games. Don’t talk to me ever again.”

Rudberg then reposted the news about Ryding's casting, like a true proud friend. The two Swedish actors found major success in the Netflix YA series, Young Royals, which ended in 2024 after three seasons. Ryding playsWilhelm, the Crown Prince of Sweden’s royal family, while Rudberg plays Simon, a working class boy. The two characters have a sweet yet unlikely romance while both attending the Hillerska Boarding School.
