Olivia Rodrigo's GUTS era is officially over, and we are now entering the you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love era. And the album is only the beginning. Rodrigo will also embark on a world tour, The Unraveled Tour, in support of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. Speaking to Vogue in November 2024, Rodrigo also said she felt “like a brand new girl” after cutting some of her hair off, preparing for a new era. “It’s time for new beginnings,” she said at the time, referring to more than just a simple makeover.
If you want to know more, we have compiled every single thing we know about you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love below.
What is OR3 called, and when is it coming out?
On April 2, 2026, Olivia Rodrigo took to her social media to announce the title, cover, and release date of her third studio album. The singer announced the name of the album would be you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love—yes, all lowercase, in stark contrast to her two previous ones, which were stylized in all caps.
The long-anticipated record will be out on June 12, 2026, and the main cover features Olivia Rodrigo midair on a swing, wearing a pale pink dress against a blue sky. You can see the cover below. “I am so proud of this record, and I can’t wait for you to hear it,” Rodrigo wrote on her Instagram, which was wiped clean for the announcement.
The title of OR3 was one of the most speculated-upon topics among fans, and there were theories aplenty. However, in an October 2025 interview with Harper's Bazaar, Rodrigo herself admitted she still had not landed on one.
“I had the title of GUTS and SOUR at the beginning of the album-making process, but for this album, I’m kind of still finding it right now,” Rodrigo said at the time. “I have a few options that are twirling around in my brain. I have one that I’m feeling good about, and I think that’ll be the title, but I am not 100 percent positive yet. I’m not writing it in stone quite yet.” She added: “It has to feel right in your body. I have to sleep on it a few nights before I really decide that that’s the one.”
Speaking to the Today show in 2023, Rodrigo hinted that the next album would likely also follow the same pattern as her first two and feature a “four-letter word," but guess that idea stayed on the drawing board!
What are the first singles from you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love?
Rodrigo announced on Instagram that her first single from the album was called “drop dead.” The song came out on April 17. The song was accompanied by the Versailles-set music video, which sparked the babydoll dress discourse, a topic Rodrigo herself has since addressed.
In May, Rodrigo unveiled the second song from the album, called “the cure.” She released the song as a single on vinyl and cassette alongside an exclusive bonus song, "never do," which won't be part of the official album track list. Speaking of “the cure,” Rodrigo said on her Instagram: “This song is the thesis statement of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, and it made the whole album click for me.”
On June 6, during a surprise set at Primavera Sound Barcelona 2026, Rodrigo premiered a third song from the album, a duet with The Cure frontman Robert Smith called “what’s wrong with me.”
“This song is special to me for so many reasons, but primarily because it’s my first song I’ve ever done a feature on, which is really exciting,” she told the crowd. On Instagram, she added: “I am still in disbelief that Robert, who is in my eyes one of the most brilliant, legendary, wonderful people to ever exist, is on this record with me. I had the most memorable evening singing it with him at Primavera tonight, and I cannot wait for this song and record to be yours.”

What's the theme of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love?
In an email from Universal Music Group promoting fans to pre-order the album, Olivia Rodrigo included a handwritten note about you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, which teased the album's theme. “No matter how hard I try to write love songs, they always come out laced with a little melancholy,” Rodrigo wrote.
Speaking to the Daily Star UK in June 2025, Rodrigo teased that the album's themes will reveal a more mature side of her, though she didn't elaborate then on which perspective that would be. “As I just grow as a person, and I learn more about music, and I have different perspectives, it’s impossible for that not to be reflected in your songwriting,” she shared. “Hopefully, by the time I put out my next album, it’ll feel more mature and like a different take on things. I think that’s what’s so fun about writing songs, is you get to keep pushing yourself and learning and growing and expanding.”
Speaking to Open House Party in July 2023, she revealed that she was already in the process of brainstorming concepts for OR3 even back then. “I just barely finished GUTS, so I can’t get too ahead of myself, but, yeah, I definitely am ideating. The wheels are spinning.”
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar from December 2024, she said that she loves “trying to distill my emotions into songs" and that her goal is to "make albums that are fresh and exciting to me creatively.”
Fans noticed the first Easter egg hinting at OR3 during Rodrigo's appearance at Osheaga Festival in Montreal, Canada, on August 3, 2025, which marked the last festival performance of the Guts tour. During the show, Rodrigo graced the stage wearing a red shirt featuring a big number 3 in rhinestones on its front.
“rings off!!!!! that’s a wrap on GUTS tour!!! until next time I love y’all 💋🎸🎂,” the star wrote on since-deleted Instagram, posting a video of herself handing off her silver “GUTS” rings, a staple from the era and tour, to fans in the crowd.
That was the first “3” hint that we got, but it wasn't long until the second one arrived. On August 11, Rodrigo sent out a fan newsletter reminiscing on the tour and wrote: “the end of the GUTS era feels bittersweet, but I’m sooooo excited for all that’s y3t to come!!!!”
Up until then, Rodrigo only referred to the end of the GUTS tour, but not the GUTS era. However, during her American Express special performance on October 23, 2025, she alluded to the end of the era. “This is definitely going to be the last GUTS show,” she said in fan-captured videos. She also hinted that she “can't wait to get back on the road one of these days.”
Closer to the album's release, and as confirmed by Universal, Rodrigo began teasing her new album in person in central Los Angeles with a purple wall that transitioned to pink over several days. (You can see a snippet here.) Previously, fans had speculated that the color of Rodrigo's next era would be red, but we are officially going pink!
When did Olivia Rodrigo record you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love? What does the whole project sound like?
Olivia Rodrigo knew fans wanted her back in the studio as soon as the GUTS tour was over, and she poked fun at it, posting a recap from a trip to Marrakesh, Morocco, in April 2025. “everywhere but that damn studio,” she captioned her photo dump.
However, a closer look at her previous photo dumps revealed she had indeed been in the studio. In a post from March 2025, Rodrigo included a slide that appears to show her in the studio of long-time collaborator Dan Nigro.
“I’m working on new music and I’m having a lot of fun. It’s nice to be home from touring, to really get to sink my teeth into new songs and new sounds and new stories. I’m having a really good time,” Rodrigo told Elle in October 2025. “It feels so different [than SOUR and GUTS]. Just by virtue of, I guess I’m a little older now, and I feel like I have more experience. I think the tour and all the festivals were really educational for me and taught me a lot about who I am and what kind of music I want to make and what music I want to play for people. I’m taking all those lessons into the studio with me.”
It also does not seem like Rodrigo got much of the recording done while on the road. “On tour, it’s actually really difficult for me to write songs. I have so many friends who can grab their guitar in any random dressing room and write a great song, but I’ve just never been that way. I always find that I’m the most inspired when I can be at home and feel really grounded and comfortable in my surroundings,” Rodrigo herself revealed to Cosmopolitan in October 2025. “I didn’t write a ton of stuff that I think will make it into the world while I was on tour. I love writing to get my thoughts out, but I’m not sure any of it was really good. I’ve really been doing most of the meat and potatoes in my writing at my house in LA.”
In a video with American Express from October 10, 2025, she said: “I'm home, and I'm working on my new album.” When exactly the process finished, we don't know, so we are going to have to wait until Rodrigo shares more about the project.
