Netflix's Scooby-Doo Live-Action Series Will Have a Teen Twist

Get ready for a “new era of mysteries and mischief" because we are getting a Scooby-Doo live-action series — and it will have a teen twist!

On March 26, 2025, Netflix announced they had acquired the rights for the very first Scooby-Doo live-action series, breathing new life into the beloved franchise in partnership with Midnight Radio and Berlanti Productions, which in turn has an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with our longstanding partners at Berlanti Productions and with Midnight Radio to bring the legendary Scooby-Doo franchise to a live-action series for the first time," Clancy Collins White, president of creative affairs at Warner Bros. Television, said in a statement. "It’s no mystery why audiences continue to love these iconic characters after more than a half-century. We’re excited for a new generation to discover Mystery Inc. And we’re grateful to our partners at Netflix for the opportunity.”

The new Scooby-Doo live-action series will join a handful of beloved revamped titles calling Netflix home, like One Piece and Avatar: The Last Airbender, so expectations are high. Below, find out everything we need to know about the project so far.

What will Netflix's Scooby-Doo live-action series be about?

Long story short, the Netflix Scooby-Doo live-action series will be a teen modern retelling of the beloved franchise. The show's official logline is as follows: “A modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”

Does Netflix's Scooby-Doo live-action series have a release date?

At the time of writing, Netflix has not yet made public a tentative release date for its newly-announced Scooby-Doo live-action series but watch this space!

How many episodes will Netflix's Scooby-Doo live-action series have?

While we don't know when it will be arriving, we do know the upcoming Netflix Scooby-Doo live-action series will feature eight episodes in total.

Who is in the cast of Netflix's Scooby-Doo live-action series?

At the time of writing, there have been no casting announcements for Netflix's Scooby-Doo live-action series. However, we do know most of the crew. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg will serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers for the show under Midnight Radio, which was also behind Hulu's High Fidelity.

Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman of Berlanti Productions, which has an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, as well as Midnight Radio's André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner, will also serve as executive producers.
