Millie Bobby Brown may have started her career as a tween, but now she's reminding the public that she is no longer the little girl who graced our screens in 2016.

The Stranger Things and Enola Holmes actress posted a trio of mirror selfies to her Instagram feed on December 29, zooming in on her gorgeous engagement and wedding bands, her earrings, and her new Louis Vuitton x Murakami bag. “Me and my mini,” Brown captioned the post, tagging LV.

In the photos, MBB purses and parts her lips and set the carousel to the song “Dancing Through Life" from the Wicked soundtrack. What should've been a fun, fashion-forward post received almost immediate backlash, as commenters began criticizing the 20-year-old's appearance, claiming that she looked older than she is.

“U look 35 what happened??" wrote one person. “MILLIE WHAT HAPPENEDDDD,” wrote another. Others began accusing Brown of getting plastic surgery and called her appearance “middle-aged.”

The reactions became so intense that on January 1, Brown took to her Instagram Stories to issue a direct response. “Women grow!!” she wrote. “Not sorry about it :)”

After making her statement, Brown received hundreds of kind messages under her post with others affirming her beauty and reminding trolls that young women are allowed to wear what they want, pose how they want, and most importantly, express themselves however they want without being attacked.

Brown's husband Jake Bongiovi, who she wed in May of last year, also commented three white heart emojis under the original carousel in support. Since then, MBB has made two other posts to IG: a New Year-themed Reel celebrating 2024 — what she calls “The year of Mrs. Bongiovi 🤍” — and a video of her and her new hubby trying a viral chocolate trend in Dubai. A true master class in being unbothered.

MBB has previously spoken about how difficult it has been to grow up in the public eye, and shared in 2023 that she's become a much more reserved person due to the constant influx of external criticism. “Nobody’s allowed in,” she told Glamour at the time. “Nobody can say sh*t…. This is my life, and the only people that are allowed are the people that I open the gate for. Other than that, everybody’s out."

2025 is about putting your foot down — and Millie Bobby Brown is taking the lead.
