Malia Obama is the living, walking proof that you don't need to buy new clothes to transition into your winter wardrobe. The budding director just gave us a lesson in layering for the colder months by making one of her summer staples work just as well for the winter.
Earlier this week, Obama was photographed enjoying a casual November stroll with a friend, rocking a fall-winter version of her summer uniform. While out and about in Los Angeles, the star repurposed her trusty denim overall dress to work for the fall weather, adding a thick ribbed knit sweater and sheer black tights to the star piece.
In case you need us to jog your memory, back in July, Obama was spotted wearing the same denim overall dress while out in LA. At the time, she kept her look simple with a plain white tank top and blue-tinted sunglasses. Later in the summer, Obama was seen again with the same 'fit formula, this time also giving us a glimpse at her footwear of choice: brown knee-high boots.
It seems like Obama loves to stick to tried-and-true combos because her fall-winter version of the outfit also included the same pair of trusty brown knee-high boots, which we have seen her wear pretty much year-round.
As far as accessories go, Obama completed her look with a colorful patchwork tote bag (the same she wore in the summer, as well) and a pair of silver hoops, which she also wears consistently. (Seriously, she even wore them on the red carpet for the premiere of her short film, The Heart, at the Deauville American Film Festival in France!)
Time and time again, Malia Obama proves that the key to a good outfit rotation is not about quantity but quality. With each look, the star proves that curating a small capsule wardrobe that will take you from spring to winter and back again is key. Granted, LA falls and winters might not be the coldest of them all, but the main takeaway from Obama's ‘fit is layering. If you live in a colder climate, add a pair of extra-thick tights and throw on a winter coat over your look for some added warmth — just like stacking up a LEGO set!
