I don't know how to feel.

When Kylie Jenner shared a few behind-the-scenes looks from the Schiaparelli show in Paris, I first focused on her dress. How could you not? So sparkly. So perfectly fitted. So gorgeous. But then, something else caught my eye, and my feelings were slightly less effusive. That something?Jenner's shoes, which were intricately crafted to look like…human feet?

Remember those “barefoot” running shoes that had a moment a few years ago? Think of these as the couture version of that. Kylie Jenner wore a pair of Schiaparelli shoes designed to look just like the sculpted feet of a statue under that gorgeous gown, adding a witty and polarizing touch to the more traditionally glamorous moment. The shoes were a similar color to her skin tone with defined, creepily lifelike “toes."

Kylie wasn't the only Jenner sister wearing the feet shoes on that high-profile occasion. Her sister Kendall, who closed the show in a sparkly red strapless dress, also slipped her feet into a pair of feet shoes, donning a similar pair of nude pumps with the aforementioned toes.

Of course, this makes a ton of sense for the fashion house, which has long been known for its embrace of surrealism both in clothing and accessories. (Remember Kylie's lion head?) They've played with the foot motif many times before, though typically, the toe portion is dipped in gold or fashioned like a claw and not…in a flesh-like shade.

In early 2022, actor Tessa Thompson wore a pair of thigh-high boots with golden toes from the fashion house, and supermodel Naomi Campbell wore the feet pumps to the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty. It is extremely clever and funny; you've got 100% glam on the top and then a pair of shoes that makes you question everything you've ever known below. Given that I had a visceral reaction to the feet running shoes and hated wearing toe socks as a kid, I think this is a trend I'm gonna skip.
