When Beyoncé dropped Lemonade last year, fans quickly zoomed in on a line that referenced "Becky with the good hair," thinking that Bey could have been insinuating that Jay Z had cheated on her. Theories ranged from Rachel Roy to Rita Ora, and while the mystery was never entirely solved, fans now think that Jay Z's new album 4:44 might be a full confession to his infidelity.
The lyrics certainly point in that direction, particularly on the title track when Jay Z sings: "If my children knew, I don’t even know what I would do / If they ain’t look at me the same, I would prolly die with all the shame / You did what with who? What good is a ménage à trois when you have a soulmate, you risked that for Blue?"
Another verse seems to indicate regret and remorse, with the lyrics: "I apologize often womanize / Took for my child to be born / See through a woman’s eyes / Took for these natural twins to believe in miracles / Took me too long for this song / I don’t deserve you."
Needless to say, the Beyhive was quick to run with these lyrics, sharing plenty of reactionary gifs on Twitter. Of course, until Bey or Jay Z come forward and specifically clarify the meaning behind the songs, it's hard to know for sure, but that's never stopped the internet from trying to analyze in the mean time.
