Rainbow hair, mermaid makeup and unicorn foods have saturated social media so completely, is there really any point in posting an image if it hasn't been dipped, dyed, and filtered beyond recognition?
When Harry Styles tweeted "I study rainbows," he didn't mean he sits outside during sun showers waiting for the pot of gold. He meant to suggest the rainbow has become synonymous with gender and sexual identity pride and awareness, and he supports the community with flying — ahem — colors. It's safe to say the pride movement has extended to our eyes and our mouths. As for unicorns and mermaids? Refinery29 spoke to Vaughn Scribner, an assistant history professor at the University of Central Arkansas who studies mythical creatures. He said "Our society has always shared a wondrous hope that maybe a whimsical notion could be proven true.”
