Dearest gentlereader, after two seasons of Bridgerton couples finding love in the most unlikely of partners, the spotlight has now shifted toward Penelope and Colin.
Netflix gave fans of the ton a sneak preview of Bridgerton's upcoming third season — which will center around friends to possible lovers, Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan, and Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton. Netflix is officially deeming the third installment a “Polin season.”
Coughlan stopped by the Tudum: A Global Fan Event in Brazil on Saturday to give a glimpse into the world of corsets, gossip, and Lady Whistledown. From the looks of the photos, it seems that season 3 will be as juicy as the first two.
Fans have watched a shy Penelope stand against the walls in the first two seasons, all while secretly writing the ton's favorite gossip paper — Lady Whistledown. She's focused mostly on observing other people's relationships, but this time, it seems that it's her turn. Will her yearning for Colin amount to anything?
From the looks of the photos, Penelope has evolved from a timid young girl hiding in the shadows to a more confident young lady. Coughlan mentioned in an interview that Penelope “is going to become a woman in Season 3.”
As for Colin, the wayward character who was on a quest to find himself in season 2 returned back to England a leading man. It's unclear if or how these two will come together, especially considering Penelope overheard Colin saying he would never court her.
Last year, Coughlan read a snippet from the first scene of season 3, which is Lady Whistledown's narration.
“Dearest gentlereader, we have been apart for far too long. At last, London’s smart set has made its return,” Coughlan read. “And so too has this author. As the season begins, the question on everyone’s mind is, of course, which newly minted debutante will shine the brightest?”
Aside from the Bridgerton siblings making their return to the ton, the third season will also feature three new characters to add to the show.
Netflix has not given a return date for the next season yet.
