Indian Designers Falguni Shane Peacock Returned to NYFW in Collaboration With Law Roach

And what a comeback it was.

After an eight-year hiatus, husband and wife duo Falguni Shane Peacock, a.k.a. the Peacocks, brought their designs back to the New York Fashion Week runway with a collection named 2.0. It wasn’t just any collection, though; now-retired celebrity stylist (or “image architect,” as he prefers to go by) Law Roach was the show's creative director.

Since founding their namesake brand in Mumbai almost two decades ago, the Peacocks have been no strangers to pop culture. They’ve dressed global icons like Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry in their embellished masterpieces — think feathers, sequins, and crystals on sexy silhouettes. Their bling-friendly, high-glam outfits are destined for the red carpet, belong onstage, and scream with main-character energy.

The Falguni Shane Peacock spring/summer 2024 collection was a celebration of all their signature elements in the form of embroidered co-ord sets, gem-studded tailored separates, sparkly bodysuits, and sheer dresses — but with a twist, thanks to Law. “Law’s vision was to marry street and couture, giving a cool, young girl vibe,” Falguni tells Teen Vogue backstage after the show.

Law styled the models with baseball caps, oversize gold hoops, stacked bangles, hints of athleisure through cashmere sweatshirts (knotted at the shoulders or layered on top of evening wear), joggers, and leg warmers. If street couture was the prompt, Law definitely understood the assignment.

“This is something she can wear on the subway,” Law said backstage. “That’s why we have the cashmere and the hats. She can toss the hat, run her fingers through her hair, and she's ready for the event. That’s our girl, she does it her way.”

On theme but not intentional, one of the models ditched her Christian Louboutin pointed stilettos mid-show, opting to go barefoot as the audience cheered with delight.

Law’s trip to Mumbai earlier this year played a key role in the creative union between East and West. “I fell in love with the culture, the kindness of the people, the smells, the colors. I took all the inspiration and I banked it. I experienced India in my soul,” he said, reminiscing. “This show allowed me to bring New York to Mumbai and Mumbai to New York — a collision of cultures that just made sense.”

For the Peacocks, the partnership with Law came just as easily. “We’ve known him since 2014, when he took one of our NYFW outfits straight to Zendaya," says Shane. "He knows our brand, he knows our style, he’s seen and tasted India.”

On the runway, the models’ long, chunky braids were another nod to South Asian culture, but they included an unexpected detail: The ends were dipped in blue, coordinated with Shane’s own cobalt-tipped beard. “That was absolutely Law’s idea!” the couple reveals with a laugh. “He’s a creative genius,” says Shane. “The way he envisions and puts things together has been a learning curve for us.”

Another key input from the famous stylist was the sari shirt, a quietly luxurious crisp white top, draped and pleated to transcend borders. Essentially, it's a sari sliced in half. “The sari shirt was the only piece that didn’t have a single bead on it," Shane points out. "And this was difficult for me because when I envision our brand, I always think of something that represents our craftsmanship. But Law told me that sometimes it’s about the simplicity and utilizing my craft in a different manner. He opened my mind.”

Law loved the results so much that he wore a sari shirt on the big day, styled with a big, bright skirt, and unlaced Air Jordans. Real Housewives of New York star Jessel Taank, seated front row, appreciated the duality of the themes and homage to her heritage: “The show was a subtle infusion of Indian culture with a sprinkle of New York.” Jessel had her eye on a beaded silver two-piece that “echoed Indian artistry, but still looked modern and cool.”

In the eight years since the Peacocks have been in New York, they grew their presence in India from one store to seven (they have planned another five store openings in the next six months) and, in 2017, launched a much-awaited bridal line, one of the country’s most lucrative markets. A fragrance line and handbag collection are also in the works.

“By the next season of NYFW we hope to finalize our New York flagship,” Falguni says. “We want to work on accessibility too. So if you see Beyoncé wearing something by us, we want to make it available for you, right here, right now,” adds Shane.

In the meantime, their designs can be found in 35 multidesigner boutiques across North America, and they’ve finalized a pop-up in the Hamptons for next summer. For the Peacocks, timing is everything.
