As we collectively wait for the polls to close and the results of the 2024 presidential election, we’re finding a reprieve in the good ole’ Internet. On X, Instagram, and TikTok people are jumping online to bring humor in a time of serious anxiety.

While there are a few other ways to deal with election anxiety, social media is by far the most accessible for young people who’ve shared everything from detailed Election Day plans to how they’re encouraging people in their communities to head to the polls.

This election has already seen strong early voting turnout in states like North Carolina, Georgia, and New York. Young voters mobilized to voice their values by casting their ballot for the candidates they think best represent them. And in places like Dane County, Wisconsin there’s been a record number of early voting from 18-29 year olds — making up 22% , as reported by TargetEarly's data.

There's a good chance we won't find out the results on election night, since the presidential race is so close and it takes time for mail-in ballots to be processed and counted. So while we sit here watching cable news and scrolling, we’re finding moments of lightness online. Memes and tweets just may get us through the week.
