Early morning makeup routines may feel frivolous. Whether it’s a chaotic dash out the door, coffee in one hand and backpack in the other, or you’ve somehow mastered the elusive art of actually having time for a full routine – school mornings still have a way of feeling like a total blur. Some days you’re working with a precious five minutes, and other days you might get a luxurious thirty.

The truth is, your morning makeup doesn’t have to feel like an uphill battle, and it can actually be one of the easiest parts of your day – that’s if you have your routines down pat.

Five minutes and go? We can make it work. And if you have ten minutes, or even thirty? Easy! There are truly simple and quick makeup routines for everyone and every timeframe! Here are your time-saving beauty routines by the experts broken down by how much time you have, so take notes.

The Two-Minute Morning Skin Care Routine

Whether you wear makeup or not, skin care is one thing you might not want to skip. It can actually be the focal point of your getting-ready routine.

“We’re all about skin-first confidence, and your routine should work with you and your skin, not against it,” says Gaia Carminati, Head of Product Development at Indu Beauty. “Start with clean, calm skin and a few easy steps that let your natural skin be its best. Think cleanser, SPF, a multi-use tinted glow, brushed-up brows, and you are good to go.”

The Five-Minute Morning Routine

Rise and shine! When you're running on “zero sleep” and only have five minutes, the goal is to look awake and put together without trying too hard. Most MUAs agree on one key strategy: focusing on high-impact, multi-use products. Celebrity makeup artist, Janice Daoud, who works with the likes of Miley Cyrus and Isabela Merced, calls it the “skin, lash, [and] lip trifecta."

  1. Prep your skin. Even with only five minutes to spare, it is best to wake up your skin with a quick mist first. According to makeup artist Kelly Zhang, a glazing or setting mist instantly makes your skin look “plump and alive.”
  2. Add some tint. Opting for a moisturizer or a tinted primer with SPF is best for a time-sensitive makeup routine. Makeup artist Samia Mohsein, who regularly works on high fashion editorials and luxury brands, says, “A tinted moisturizer or concealer quickly evens out skin tone and hides any tiredness.” Similarly, you can use tinted brow gel to shape, fill in sparse areas, and add definition in seconds. After all, “brows frame the entire face,” says Zhang.
  3. Take advantage of multi-use products for cheeks and lips. They can be a quick trick to add some color to your face, and they can be super on trend. For example, we know orange blush is having a moment right now. Zhang loves a multi-use cream product because it “adds color, warmth, and that healthy, just-got-back-from-a-walk glow.” And you can easily blend it with your fingers for an effortless, natural flush.
  4. Brighten the eyes. Last, but not least, lock in for a quick trick to brighten your eyes. According to celebrity makeup artist Avia Solomon, who regularly works with Selena Gomez, using a nude or peach-toned eyeliner in the waterline and tapping a bit of highlighter into the inner corners of your eyes "gives that 'I slept 8 hours' illusion – even if you didn't." Makeup artist Sean Harris swears by color correctors. “It will change your life. It will instantly brighten and correct any dull tones around the eye.” Top it off with a few swipes of mascara and you're set.

The 10 Minutes-to-Glow-Up Routine

With a little more time, you can elevate your look from fresh and minimal to effortlessly polished. In other words, this is the perfect time to add more definition and warmth.

  1. Swipe your mascara. Solomon shares, “Just a few swipes instantly open up your eyes and make you look more awake.” And Zhang agrees that you should “curl your lashes if you have time, then apply a lengthening or defining formula” for definition.
  2. Add glow with bronzer. Zhang says, “Adding a touch of bronzer (especially a cream or soft-matte powder) brings warmth and dimension back to the face. Sweep it across your cheeks, temples, and a little on the bridge of your nose. This mimics the way the sun naturally hits your skin and gives you that sun-kissed, healthy glow. It also adds subtle contour without the work.”
  3. Add some quick powder. You can’t go wrong with some intentionally added shine, but you definitely don’t want that midday T-zone shine. Makeup artist Tobi Henney, who has worked with Camila Mendes and Lili Reinhart, suggests using any extra time for adding concealer where needed and setting cream products with powder for longer wear. Solomon also advises adding “a light dusting of powder in the T-zone to stay shine-free.”

The 15-Minute Makeup Routine

A comfortable fifteen minutes gives you the opportunity to create an even more complete and polished look. “It’s the perfect amount of time to look super pulled together, like you made an effort but still kept it chill,” says Mohsein.

  1. Refine the base. With a few more minutes, you truly can take a moment to spot-conceal with more precision. Henney recommends using a creamy concealer two shades lighter than your skin tone to brighten the under-eye area. Specifically, Zhang suggests using "a salmon-tone concealer to cancel out dark circles.”
  2. Add more dimension. Next, Harris says with the extra few minutes, you can “definitely incorporate some contouring and shaping on cheeks and perimeter of face.” Zhang says, “Sweep a natural bronzer across your cheeks, forehead, and jawline to add warmth and subtle contour. You can even tap a little into your crease for a soft, cohesive eye.”
  3. Set it all in. Solomon says, “This is the perfect time to blend everything really well and layer products to make them last longer without looking heavy.” Harris says that finishing off “with a setting mist that has a dewy finish” will “instantly melt everything together for the perfect [polished] look.”

The Full 30-Minute (or More) Makeup Routine

“Taking your time on every element can really enhance and create a more polished look,” says Henney. If you have a full thirty minutes or even more, you can create a more complete routine without rushing. Life goals.

  1. Start with a full glam base. With more time, you can add more steps to your base. Solomon says, “Add primer for a smooth base, then apply tinted moisturizer or light foundation and concealer.” Henney also says, “You can apply a more intricate base, like Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, and take more time to blend with a damp Beautyblender.”
  2. Elevate the eyes. You can create a more elevated eyeshadow look using a few shades and smudging an eyeliner pencil to the lash line for more depth. “It’s also the perfect time to touch up brows more precisely or play with a subtle wing or colorful liner if that’s your thing,” says Mohsein. Similarly, Harris says with more time, you can “incorporate a liquid or pencil eyeliner to define the eyes.”
  3. Refine the lips. The lip look can include a liner, lipstick, and a gloss for a more polished finish. Harris notes that a lip liner can be a quick way to add balance and definition to lips. And don’t forget, you want to lock it all in.
  4. Make it stay. To ensure your makeup lasts, Zhang suggests using a layering technique with setting spray, lightly misting between each key step, like after primer and after base products, because that will “prevent sliding, fading, or patchiness by lunchtime.”
