Charli XCX was not only crowned the queen of hits last night but also of the naked dresses.
The Brat singer showed up to the Variety Hitmakers brunch at NYA West in Hollywood on Saturday, December 7, to receive the Hitmaker of the Year award. It's no surprise that Charli received the award, given the success of her sixth studio album Brat, its subsequent tour, and the countless memes and “Brat summer” that it inspired. The album was also crowned the number one album of 2024 on Rolling Stone's list of 100 best albums.
For the big event, Charli opted for a barely-there dress from Saint Laurent that clung to her perfectly. The sheer tan-colored gown was halter-style with a deep v-neck in the front and hung down past her feet. Charli wore her signature dark wavy hair down her back and went with a cat-style eyeshadow look and nude lip.
Before Charli XCX took the stage to accept her award, she was introduced by Bodies, Bodies, Bodies actor and friend Rachel Sennott. In her speech, Charli mentioned being inspired and supported by producer Jack Antonoff, along with Raye, Caroline Polachek, and Lana Del Rey.
In her speech, Charli also referenced the Velvet Underground's 1967 album and how it barely charted on the Billboard 200 or sold many copies but has since influenced music that came after it.
“This record is one of the most influential and groundbreaking records of our time. It’s the apex of fine art and dirty culture, colliding high and low, poetry meets drugs, earnest and arrogant,” she said. “My album cover has not yet appeared at the Guggenheim or the Whitney or the Tate. However, some of my merch is able to be purchased at Urban Outfitters. I guess that means I’m halfway there.”
Also in attendance were Olivia Rodrigo and Laufey — who posed with Charli XCX, Polachek, and Amy Allen. Rodrigo shared the photo on her Instagram Story and wrote, “an actual photo of what my Spotify wrapped looks like.”
