Ariana Grande shared her August Vogue cover with a very important cover model: one of her dogs, Toulouse. Or perhaps, things happened the other way around and it was Toulouse who shared his cover with Ariana. If I’m ever on the cover of Vogue, I would like to follow in Ariana’s footsteps and pose with my cat on the beach. While it’s unlikely that will ever happen, lucky for me and all other cat lovers reading this, today is NATIONAL KITTEN DAY.
While cat owners know that every single day is national cat/kitten day (why are they so bossy!?), it’s nice to be able to embrace the (un)official holiday and focus our undivided attention on our favorite little fur babies. Kittens are truly a balm for an otherwise awful world. They’re loving, mischievous, and just so so cute.

Since getting a cat (shout out to Raffi!), my passion for felines has taken on a feverish quality to the point that I now enter clothing stores and immediately ask if they have any clothes with “Siamese cats” on them. Clearly, I have already become a “crazy cat lady” but I think it’s high time we reclaim the term and make it something to be proud of, because cats are awesome. And recently designers such as Balenciaga, Charlotte Olympia, and even Converse clearly agree, placing kitties front and center in their latest designs. Need even more proof the kittens are having a serious moment? It is Hello Kitty’s 45th birthday year, which means there have been some serious collabs happening lately.

Kitten-apparel is purr-fect (sorry) for those amongst us who want to show our love of our feline friends on our sleeves (and don’t have a platform that allows us to show them off on the cover of Vogue). Why stop at kitten-apparel? To celebrate the holiday, Stila Cosmetics is launching The Ultimate Kitten Kit, which includes an array of sparkly makeup all named after you guessed it, kittens. Another classic kitten-inspired makeup look is, of course, cat-eye eyeliner. Meeeeooow.

How else are we celebrating this national treasure of a day you ask? We’re re-watching our favorite Youtube video of all time: “kittens inspired by kittens.” In the video, which was posted back in 2008, a darling child narrates a book of kittens from the perspective of kittens — highlights include a shot of a kitten with a typewriter and a stapler while the little girl shouts, "I’m at work!” and another shot of a kitten chilling outside who the little girl deems is a “secret agent”.
I guess this is a good time to admit that I’ve seriously been considering getting a nameplate necklace with my cat's name on it. What better way to show my kitten-love than wear his name on my heart?? If you’re not quite that crazy of a cat lady (yet), here are some great kitten inspired options to help you celebrate the special day.
