“What I want to say right now…” BTS rapper Suga begins in the new trailer for his documentary, SUGA: Road to Music. “How should I do it? I'm 30 now. There are a lot of things you can do when you're 30, aren't there?”
The new documentary — out tomorrow, April 21 on Disney+ — follows Suga (real name Min Yoongi) through the lead-up to his forthcoming album, including world travels, the recording process, and reflections on the musician and person he is becoming. Teen Vogue is excited to share two exclusive photos of Suga from the documentary ahead of its release.

In the trailer, he shows delight at traveling on his own for the first time. “I've got to think of ways to make my life more fun,” he says. Clips show him traveling to Las Vegas, Pyeongchang, San Francisco. Along the way, he meets friends and collaborators such as Anderson .Paak, Steve Aoki, and Halsey. A split-second shows him and Halsey with matching hair styles, tiny little buns on their heads, as Suga laughs at his reflection.
“I always enjoy meeting and talking to musicians,” Suga says. “We may speak different languages, but we share the same mind. I'm lucky to have such good friends." Fans are already hoping the doc will show SUGA meeting Halsey's baby for the first time.
Elsewhere in the trailer, the Daegu wordsmith talks about his simultaneous love for and struggle with music. “The day I'm free from all the negative thoughts, I'll set it as D-Day and start all over again. I think of quitting music more than a hundred times a day. But when everyone comes together like this, I can do it. Because it makes me feel that making music is fun.”
In another moment, he plays piano in Tokyo for the late Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto — who has been one of his heroes in music. Sakamoto died on March 28, 2023, and Suga left a tribute on Instagram: “Teacher, I hope the faraway journey is peaceful.”
Suga leaves fans with a final message in the doc trailer about moving on from the past, hinting that he's reckoning with BTS's past, present, and future alongside his own. His song “People” plays in the background, a cue to his pre-album release single “People Pt.2,” featuring IU, which is being released this Friday.
“We're worried about the uncertain future. Afraid of it," he says. “We're haunted by a past that we can't fix. But what we can control is the present. We should focus on the present. The past is the past, the present is the present, and the future is only the future.”
