If you thought Prime Video's sports romance streak was ending with Off Campus, you might want to keep an eye out for Boys of Tommen.

The streamer keeps expanding its book-to-screen adaptation roster, and the latest title to join its ranks is YA series Boys of Tommen, originally written by Irish author Chloe Walsh. The book series, first published in, has become a BookTok sensation and a #1 New York Times and internationally bestseller.

Greenlit earlier this year, Boys of Tommen is being adapted to the screen by Poppy Cogan (A Good Girl's Guide to Murder), who serves as lead writer and executive producer, the latter alongside original author Chloe Walsh, among others. The series is produced by wiip (The Summer I Turned Pretty) in association with Amazon MGM Studios and Temple Hill (which recently brought us People We Meet on Vacation and, yes, also Off Campus). Award-winning Irish director Brendan Canty (whom you might recognize from Hozier’s "Take Me to Church" music video) is also on board for the project.

“Chloe has created such a rich, emotionally vivid world in these books, and as the writer adapting this story for screen, it's been a privilege to be entrusted with bringing that world to life,” Cogan said in a statement. Prime Video's Nicole Clemens added, “Poppy's scripts capture the intensity of Johnny and Shannon's powerful romance and dive into the rich constellation of characters to explore the themes of mental health, bullying, and resilience with the same authenticity that fans love in Chloe's books.”

Finally, Canty also said, “As someone who grew up in Cork, where these stories are set, this project feels incredibly personal to me. Poppy has done an amazing job adapting Chloe’s beloved books, and the way both writers capture young people’s lives with such empathy, tenderness, and honesty feels truly extraordinary to me. "

What is Boys of Tommen about?

Boys of Tommen is based on the bestselling book series by Irish author Chloe Walsh. Specifically, season one of the show will be based on the first two novels of the series: Binding 13 and Keeping 13.

The show's official logline confirms that the first season will follow “the forbidden love story” between Johnny Kavanagh and Shannon Lynch. The story takes place at Tommen College, a prestigious private school in the fictional town of Ballylaggin, located in County Cork, Ireland.

Johnny is “the star rugby player on the verge of a pro career,” while Shannon is “the talented but painfully shy new girl.” The logline continues: “Both teenagers are hiding secrets; Johnny, a potentially career-ending injury, and Shannon, a troubled and violent home life. Through their secret and highly charged connection, the two teens from opposite worlds battle against the odds and find a way to save each other.”

The Boys of Tommen book series features six books in total. After Binding 13 and Keeping 13, the story continues with Saving 6, Redeeming 6, Taming 7, and Releasing 10.

As to what to expect from the show, Nicole Clemens, Prime Video's international content chief, told Deadline: “It's just an unbelievable constellation of characters, but it's also got such a specificity for place and the time. It talks about abuse, about bullying, about mental health, and it's about love. It's a romance series.”

While the show has only been greenlit for a season, Clemens is already looking ahead. “Who knows how many we do, but hopefully it goes for a long time. There's plenty of material and plenty of incredible, rich characters.”

Director Brendan Canty opened up about the cast in a statement, saying, “We knew that finding the right cast was going to be everything. We searched far and wide, receiving over 3000 casting suggestions from across the UK and Ireland, but from the moment Nancy, Conor, James, and Sophie walked into the room, it was clear we'd found something beyond special. Each of them brings the spirit and emotional depth this story demands, and I couldn't be more excited to bring Chloe's world to the screen with this extraordinary young cast.”

“These characters have lived in the hearts and minds of millions of readers, and the response to them has been overwhelming, so finding the right cast was incredibly important,” Poppy Cogan added. “I'm thrilled beyond words that we've found our Shannon, Johnny, Joey, and Aoife in Nancy, Conor, James, and Sophie—they are the perfect people to embody these roles. Knowing that everyone behind this production and at Amazon MGM Studios shares my passion for telling this story authentically makes this moment even more special. I cannot wait for the world to see what's coming.”
