As we all know very well by now, Ariana Grande famously bleached her hair from a dark brunette to a golden blonde shade to play Glinda in the Wicked film adaptation. The star has now been Glinda blonde since late 2022, and we basically can't remember what she looked like with her dark hair. However, Grande recently dropped some BTS pics from Wicked costume fittings where she's wearing Glinda's clothes — as a brunette!
Recently, Ariana Grande shared a ton of fun behind-the-scenes footage and snapshots from rehearsals, including a video of herself and co-star Cynthia Erivo practicing their “battle” during “What Is This Feeling?” and a cute pic of her dog Toulouse sitting on Elphaba's bed.

Though Grande is blonde in most of the photos and videos, there are a few shots of her dark-haired self, and it's a little jarring to see her dressed in Glinda's striped skirt suit with an espresso brunette ponytail. In the photo, she poses in the mirror wearing the pinstriped set in shades of light blue-gray and stripes of Glinda's signature color, pink, and her hair is the polar opposite of blonde. A little jarring, right?
Though Grande dyed her hair for the role, she also wore wigs during the movie. Frances Hannon, who designed the hair, makeup, and prosthetics for the movie, told Allure that 12 wigs were made for Glinda, though many were worn by stand-ins and doubles. She also made sure not to incorporate any “pop star Ariana” into Glinda's look. “Ari's main iconic look for herself is her very tight, high-up ponytail, and that was very important to stay away from,” Hannon explained. “I never even considered her having hairdos that were up or princess-like.” Hannon added that Grande dyed her brows every 10 days to make sure they matched her hair color.
Grande previously shared that Glinda's glam changed her own personal makeup routine. “Glinda’s makeup kinda made me transform my entire look and my entire relationship to makeup. I just love it so much,” she shared in a video from the Wicked makeup trailer. "There’s no thick eyeliner. There’s no heavy crease. It’s just really warm and open and pretty.”
We've got another year to go until the premiere of Wicked: For Good, which means the Glinda glam is probably going to stick around for a while longer.
