Angel Reese just made her runway debut at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, but the WNBA star is showing her fashion prowess through her personal style too.
The basketball player showed off one of her outfits in an Instagram Story posted October 25, and there was one detail in particular that physically and sartorially tied the whole thing together — a string of pearls around her waist as a belt. Genius.
The pearls, which were also featured a sparkly Chanel logo between them, sat loose on the waist of her oversized denim, adding a softer touch to the edginess of the bottoms. The jewelry appears to be a Chanel faux pearl strand necklace strung around the waist, which is such a fun DIY for any long necklaces you might have lying around, and a great example for the cast of wearing your clothes in unexpected ways. The Chanel faux pearl strand necklace is selling for $1,650 right now, but there are several brands offering this style belt, including Anthropologie or this super-long J.Crew pearl strand.
Meanwhile, Angel Reese's outfit featured plenty of athleisure-but-make-it-couture elements, including a vintage Chanel graphic tank top that looks almost like a jersey, except bodycon and color-blocked. She paired the top with a pair of light wash jeans, a powder blue Hermès Birkin bag, and a pair of feathery brown high heels.
The top is from Chanel's 2011 collection and is currently being resold on Grailed for over $1,000.
As for her other accessories, Reese wore plenty of bracelets and necklaces in mixed metals, including a Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra bracelet with an agate motif and a silver wraparound watch, a tennis-chic visor and a pair of frameless sunglasses. Her hair was cut short in a bob, a style that she recently unveiled on her social media earlier this week.
The look is luxury from the top down, but the shining star of the outfit was the DIY touches that Reese added to her outfit that makes it her own. So take it from the WNBA's brightest star: wear your necklaces as belts! There's also so much room to play with this trend — it's kind of like the belly chains that have been seen on KATSEYE's Manon and Tate McRae, but you could personalize it with added trinkets, layers or other kinds of hardware, like beads or gemstones.
