Is Addison Rae stepping out of her sartorial comfort zone? It sure looks like it, and there's only a tiny "accessory" to thank for the change.
From dresses made entirely of belts to statement phone cases, unconventional accessories help tie outfits together and elevate them in ways clothing otherwise could not. They pose as alternative avenues of self-expression that offer near-endless styling possibilities. Over the past weekend, Addison Rae took to Instagram to show off her own most recent accessory obsession: temporary tattoos.
In one post, the TikToker-turned-style-influencer donned a minimalist tattoo of a bow placed on her upper arm, which is overexposed and in direct contrast to the black linework. Her outfit's hot pink ruffled neckline drapes above her shoulder and matches her rose-tinted lip color, while her pearlescent earring glows in the flash photo.

In another, Rae sports a detailed, swirling snake on the top of her foot, which she paired with vintage satin mules from Prada.
The bow tattoo also made a comeback in Rae's IG stories, this time casually styled with gold dangle earrings and a white ribbed tank top. This look stands in contrast to the more feminine one from her initial post, but the stick-on compliments both the outfit and the wearer — dressed up or down.
Rae is not the first to tout tattoos as a fashion statement. Other celebrities, such as Bella Hadid, have tried their hand in recent years. (ICYMI: Hadid rocked a delicate faux butterfly tattoo that paid homage to the visual style defining the late nineties and early aughts in summer 2021.)
Both Rae and Hadid seem to be having fun with stick-on tats for the warmer months, and there's no reason why you shouldn't too. Temporary tattoos come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are easily available for customers on the market thanks to brands like Inkbox or Inked by Dani. But beware! We are talking about skin decals. Following a rise in the confusion over cosmetic versus so-called semipermanent tattoos, the myth of the latter has been debunked: they don't exist. (Even if an artist claims to be able to less-intensely deposit ink into skin or "special inks" are used, if you don't want it to last, stay away from needles and stick to decals!)
It's no wonder stick-on tats have become celebrities' accessories of choice: they lack the cost and commitment of permanent ones while still possessing all of the look and appeal. Anyone can dress to fit the tat or vice-versa. In Rae's case, these outfit-enhancers can be as simple as an emoji-like bow or as intricate as a serpentine illustration. Either way, it proves that tiny tattoos can speak volumes.
