The 2024 US presidential election is over, and the results show Donald Trump has won, to the dismay of many, including celebrities Cardi B, Lili Reinhart, and more.

In the early morning of November 6, Trump was declared the president-elect after securing more than 270 Electoral College votes, the number needed to win. As noted by AP News, Trump is en route to becoming the first US president to be elected to two non-consecutive terms since Grover Cleveland in 1892. And at 78, he will become the oldest president to take the oath of office and the first US president convicted of multiple felonies.

Reactions started trickling in via social media. Below, see how some celebrities are reacting to the news.

Cardi B

Cardi B, who had just appeared at a Kamala Harris rally days before, reacted to Trump's win by filming herself while the results were still being called. “I hate y'all bad,” she wrote in the video. In a video posted later, she asked Trump supporters to stop bothering her.

When we’re afraid we lean on each other. Right now we are going to do exactly that. We are going to be there for each other. Do not be cynical. Do not have the conversation alone in your head. Go be together. be around those who do not assume the worst of you. Fight for the rights of oppressed people. Respect the earth and its creatures. Live with the most dignity and remember that every tiny thing is carried on. As always the ally coalition’s work does not rest. As always our people do not rest and know greater strength and joy than those who put others down.”

Jimmy Kimmel

Kimmel addressed Trump's win during his opening monologue. “We had the choice between a prosecutor and a criminal, and we chose the criminal to be president of the United States. More than half of this country voted for the criminal who’s planning to pardon himself for his crimes. I guess this election wasn’t rigged,” he said.

He added: “It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make this country go. For health care, for our climate, for scientists, for journalists, for justice, for free speech. It was a terrible night for poor people, for the middle class, for seniors who rely on Social Security, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO and democracy and decency. It was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him and guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him, too, you just don’t realize it yet.”

Stephen Colbert

Stephen Colbert also addressed Trump's win in his monologue. ““After a bizarre and vicious campaign fueled by a desperate need not to go to jail, Donald Trump has won the 2024 election,” he began. “The deep shock and sense of loss is enormous. But let’s look at the bright side. This way at least there’ll be a peaceful transfer of power. Mike Pence, olly olly oxen free. All day yesterday, I was walking around proudly wearing my ‘I Voted’ sticker. Today I wore my, ‘I am questioning my fundamental belief in the goodness of humanity’ sticker.”

Seth Meyers

Fellow late-night host Seth Meyers also used Trump's win in his monologue. “I don’t think Donald Trump’s a good person. I’d even go so far as to say he’s a bad person,” Meyers said. “Now, in my defense, I’m only basing that on everything I’ve ever been taught about what makes someone good or bad. That’s it. And this is real and this is something I accept — half the country thinks he’s a good person or they don’t care that he’s not because they think he’s a good president and because of that, he’s gonna be our president again. That’s how democracy works in America. A country that is a privilege to live in, even on a morning like today.”

Lili Reinhart

Riverdale actor Lili Reinhart was among the first to react to Trump's win on her social media. “I cannot fathom the feeling of the women who came forward about their sexual assault at the hands of Trump. Bette Midler

Actor Bette Midler, known for her role in the Hocus Pocus franchise, took to X to lament Trump's win by quoting H.L. Mencken.

“When a candidate for public office faces the voters he does not face men of sense; he faces a mob of men whose chief distinguishing mark is the fact that they are quite incapable of weighing ideas, or even of comprehending any save the most elemental — men whose whole thinking is done in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is dread of what they cannot understand. So confronted, the candidate must either bark with the pack or be lost…," her post reads. "All the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum… The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

Ethel Cain

Singer/producer Ethel Cain posted a long statement on Tumblr: “Everybody is so incredibly hateful. We are a loveless, disrespectful nation. We are so spread thin by our government that we would sell each other out in a heartbeat for an ounce of relief. This is what we’ve come to,” it reads. “It’s not even about Trump at this point. He’s gonna get in office and do whatever he does and it’s gonna be a mess but whatever. This is indicative of deeper problem. This is just the ugly consequence of the already present reality in this country that we all just despise each other. There is no solidarity and there is no love. Trump being in office or not doesn’t change the fact that America is a breeding ground for violent hatred.”

Cain finished the post, writing: “If you voted for Trump, I hope that peace never finds you. Instead, I hope clarity strikes you someday like a clap of lightning and you have to live the rest of your life with the knowledge and guilt of what you’ve done and who you are as a person.”

Jamie Lee Curtis

The Freakier Friday star took to IG to react to Trump's win, writing: “Many will be celebrating, possibly even gloating over their victory. Many will be stunned and sad with the terrible feelings of the loss. That is the same result despite who wins because that's what America and democracy looks like. Has always looked like. So what does it mean? It means a sure return to a more restrictive, some fear draconian time. Many fear their rights will be impeded and denied. Many, minority groups and young people will be afraid. Gay and trans people will be more afraid. We know that many women will now find it difficult to get the reproductive healthcare that they need and deserve. For all those people there will be those who will help you. Me included. But what it really means is that we wake up and fight. Fight for women and our children and their futures and fight against tyranny, one day at a time. One fight at a time. One protest at a time. That's what it means to be an American. That's what it has always meant and will always mean regardless of the outcome.”
