At Teen Vogue Summit 2023 in LA, Coach went big — celebrating their Shine Collection with an interactive shoppable product wall, a 360-immersive scaffolding art installation, and a complimentary coffee truck. It was all about owning your personal style and wearing it with confidence.
With the help of content creators Tanya Ravichandran and Kristin Cabatingan, Coach exemplified the power of personal style. Celebrating the importance of confidence, empowerment, and the freedom to dream, Ravichandran and Cabatingan showed us how they dressed for the day through their eyes. In conversation with Teen Vogue, they gave us all the details behind their outfits, personal style, and how Coach has emboldened their confidence.
“When I was choosing my Summit outfit, I chose pieces that I’m currently drawn to,” Cabatingan said, referring to her Coach Snap Front Shrunken Jacket, Mini Skirt, Signature Knit Cropped Turtleneck, Julietta Boot, and the Penn Bag. “Right now, I really like the look of mixing preppy and feminine pieces like this skirt with something a bit more edgy like this leather jacket and boots.”
“Coach pieces are classic, edgy, eclectic, and effortless which relates to my personal style,” Cabatingan said, highlighting some of the main themes of the Coach Shine Collection. “I love how Coach strikes a balance of trendy and classic and practicality! My personal style resembles the same balance — I love mixing pieces that are classic with something effortless or trendy.”
Ravichandran, who wore the Coach Leather Mini Skirt in Silver Metallic, cropped black cardigan and the Tabby Bag also cited balance as a point of inspiration in her style. “This choice allowed me to achieve a fine balance of formal and relaxed appearance, which felt just right for the Summit atmosphere,” she added. “I have always been an enthusiast of elevated basics [and] their remarkable ability to form the foundation of a versatile capsule wardrobe. Coach’s 2023 Shine Collection, in particular, captivated me with its blend of vintage silhouettes and contemporary design, mirroring my own approach to personal style.”
Personalization is the key to curating your wardrobe so that you can easily put together outfits you feel confident in for special events like these. Cabatingan and Ravichandran have clever hacks to stay in tune with their style.
“I have a running notepad of things that currently inspire me and what I’m drawn to at the moment,” Cabatingan said. “So when I go and plan an outfit for a big event like Teen Vogue Summit, I already have an idea of pieces I want to wear and feel most confident in.”
Ravichandran shared that she takes a similar approach, “I meticulously plan my outfits for events using digital boards,” she said, explaining that she uploads pictures of her clothing to her device so she can easily shuffle them around until she finds the perfect outfit.
For days on the go, like Teen Vogue Summit 2023, that sense of practicality is essential as comfort and confidence go hand in hand. Both Cabatingan and Rachichandran turn to their Coach accessories for those days.
Cabatingan opts for a convenient shoulder bag, like the Coach Penn, since they fulfill her three criteria. “I feel like it's so much easier to carry around, fits all my essentials, and compliments any outfit I wear,” she explained.
For Ravichandran, it’s the roomy Coach Tabby, which she says is ”sufficiently wide but not too deep, therefore I will not be filling the bag with unnecessary items I do not need daily but also can easily visualize [all my essentials in my bag] when I open it.”
Ravichandran’s other must-haves for Summit were the Nikola Hybrid Slingback heels. “These shoes not only carried the metallic theme throughout the outfit but also were comfortable and sensory-friendly,” she said. “I knew I was going to be on my feet all day and I am thankful to these beautiful shoes for carrying me through that.”
And after the outfit is finally all put together, it’s time to get real. Cabatingan said, “When getting dressed I always take a second to think, ‘How do I feel in the outfit I’m wearing? Is it true to my style? Do I feel comfortable or confident in it?’”
But, don’t dwell on it too much. Ravichandran said, ” If you trust your fashion choices, you are ready to face the day with pure confidence. This rule is a reminder that you are in control of your style and how you look and therefore you should embrace it without unnecessary hesitation.”
According to Cabatingan, the most important thing is to enjoy the process. “Fashion is fun and you can pull anything off if you’re confident and having fun.” And we’d have to agree!
