3 Ways to Nail Festival Style, Courtesy of Nicole Richie

Over the years, Nicole Richie helped to redefine Boho style, taking it from a look made solely for California girls to something that can translate into anyone's wardrobe. This season, her line House of Harlow is debuting a new collection that takes festival style to an insane new level. The collection — which retails for $40-$250 at Revolve — features every style staple we're loving this season. You'll find slip dresses, printed crop tops, oversized layering pieces and plenty of jewelry. We sat down with Nicole to chat festival style advice, her sister Sofia's budding career, and how to truly feel comfortable in your own skin. Read on!

When it comes to Boho style, Nicole Richie is lauded for her modern take on the trend. But her rise to Boho style icon was almost accidental, she explains. "I’m 5’1" so clothes on me are just naturally oversized so it’s just something that I became comfortable wearing."
Her advice on perfecting Boho style? "Don't be afraid of clashing prints and colors because it’s actually really fun. Things that you would never want to put next to each other you might be surprised once you actually do."

Her style philosophy and life motto are decidedly simple: Be yourself. "We have no other thing to be other than ourselves," Nicole muses. "It’s the easiest thing to be. You’re the only person that’s going to own that space, so you might as well go after it. It is so exhausting to try and be like somebody else or to emulate somebody else's personality or style, and it’s just never going to come off authentic. You know, each one of us has this very special gem and that’s being us. And you can see it. If you’re just you, nobody can break that thing that you have."

In fact, Nicole says it's crucial to surround yourself with family and friends as you strive for success in your chosen career path. "It’s important to have a good support system around you. Whether it’s your family or your friends that feel like your family. It’s always important to surround yourself with people who aren’t afraid to stand up to you. I like getting different perspectives all the time."
