Nicole Richie's Hair at the FiFi Awards: Celebrity Beauty Breakdown

Nicole Richie presented at the FiFi Awards—the Oscars of the fragrance world—wearing a voluminous updo with a sweet bow-like detail. Hairstylist Charley Brown shares how he created the look.

"First, I misted the hair with Wella Professional Enrich Detangling Spray to help remove any tangles or knots and applied Roman Oil Serum by Umberto Beverly Hills to seal in moisture and add a healthy shine," explains Brown. "I parted the hair in sections, adding a small amount of Oribe Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray to each section, and used a blow dryer to create fullness at the top of her head. I brought all of her hair into a ponytail secured by a hook elastic and backcombed the ponytail to create volume. Using a detailing brush, I shaped and smoothed the bun. I took two sections of hair and wrapped them around the base of the bun—this held it in place and kept it from looking conservative or bridal. For the finishing touch, I used one of my favorite hairsprays, L'Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold, to set the look.
