Alexa Chung
"Alexa's dress was very 60's mod, but the touch of glitz gave it modernity. We felt that we should evoke the same feeling with the makeup, which meant pairing a graphic, shimmery cat-eye with a neutral lip," shares makeup artist Tamah K, who used Nars Cosmetics to create the look. "I started by using two Duo Eyeshadows—Exotic Dance and Dogon—on her lids. To define her eyes, I used Via Veneto Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner (available Fall 2011). Finally, I lined her lips with Lipliner Pencil in Jilted Love, which is a soft coral shade, and then filled them in with Matte Lip Pencil in Bolero Velvet, a muted cantaloupe color."

Lea Michele
"We kept her makeup very natural, adding just a little definition to the eyes—it's a really chic and modern look," says makeup artist Melanie Inglessis, who used Lancome products on the star. "To give Lea beautiful, fresh skin, I used Teint Miracle Foundation. Her eyes were defined using the Color Design 5 Pan Palette in Bronze Amour; I used shade #5 as the main color to create a soft smoky effect and then applied #4 under the brow bone and in the inner corner of the eye. To accentuate her very long lashes, I curled them first and applied two coats of Oscillation Intensity Mascara in Black. I wanted to keep Lea's lips natural with just a hint of gloss, so I lightly dabbed on L'Absolu Nu lipstick in Sheer Mousse and then layered Juicy Tubes in Simmer on top to add shine. Finally, I applied Star Bronzer in Solaire all over the face to give her a healthy glow!"

Dianna Agron
"I really wanted to keep Dianna looking clean, beautiful, and simple," says Chanel Celebrity Makeup Artist Angela Levin. "First, I prepped her skin with Sublimage La Creme and then applied Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF in Beige Rose-Tendre to even out her skin. I also used Eclat Lumiere Face Pen in Beige Rose under the eyes, Powder Blush in Orchid Rose on her cheeks, and then I set the makeup with Natural Finish Pressed Powder in Clair. On her eyelids, I used Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Ebloui and Mirifique (both available in July 2011), shaped her brows with Talika Eye Brow Extender in Light Brown, and applied Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir to boost her lashes. On her lips, Dianna wore Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Boy."

Nicole Richie
Nicole Richie's Met Gala makeup was "a nod to Old Hollywood glamour," according to Eric Polito of Nars Cosmetics, who created the look. We loved the hint of green in her smoky eye (at home, try Eyeshadow in Fiji and Eyeliner Pencil in Black Moon) as well as her decadent red lip (Polito used Pure Matte Lipstick in Terre de Feu). Scott Cunha of Andy Lecompte Salon in West Hollywood also helped Nicole turn up the glam factor by giving her a chic side-part and beautiful, voluminous curls.

Mary-Kate Olsen
Mary-Kate rocked her signature boho-chic look: She wore a vintage red and pink Givenchy dress along with gorgeous green jewelry from Van Cleef & Arpels. The striking colors in her ensemble led Molly R. Stern of Nars Cosmetics to find inspiration in Symbolist painter Gustav Klimt. She gave Mary-Kate a fresh, summery complexion by using a combination of The Multiple in Laguna and powder blush in Sex Appeal, and she created a sultry, rose-hued eye by applying an intensely dark liner and then dusting over it with powder blush in Exhibit A (yes, you can use blush as an eyeshadow). Gorgeous!

Hailee Steinfeld
"Hailee is such a beautiful and strong young woman! We were inspired by Juliette (as in Romeo and Juliette) for her Met Gala look and wanted to do something romantic and soft," explains Chanel Celebrity Makeup Artist Stephen Solitto. "To start, I moisturized her face with what is, honestly, the most luxurious product I have ever used: Sublimage La Creme. It's a whipped moisturizing cream that feels like heaven on the skin. If you can treat yourself to just one posh beauty product this season, get this! After moisturizing, I applied a small amount of Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 in Beige-Tendre to perfect her complexion.
"Hailee's eyes are the most beautiful golden brown color! To bring out that gold tone while also complementing her gorgeous nude-colored dress, I used Quadra Eyeshadow in Spices. I applied the gold shade from the lash line to the eyebrow as well as along the lower lash line to make her eyes sparkle, and I used the cinnamon brown color on the lids," he reveals. "To accentuate the lash line, I used Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Espresso and then layered the deep plum color from Quadra Eyeshadow in Kaska Beige over it for a softer effect. I finished the eyes by applying Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir. On Hailee's cheeks, I applied Powder Blush in Rose Dust in the hollow areas, and then I dusted Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Corail on the apples. For my favorite feature—the lips—I started by using Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Elise on the bottom lip to create a deeper tone; then I used Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Fetiche over both lips to create a healthy pink pout. Hailee looked stunning and totally charming on the red carpet!"
Hailee's long locks were perfectly coiffed, thanks to Alex Pollilo, who whipped up an updo that he describes as "very soft and romantic but with great texture." Polillo advises using Ookisa Replenishing Conditioner and Instant Volumizing Souffle to achieve a similar look at home.

Emma Stone
Emma Stone looked absolutely flawless on the red carpet, and now we know why: Chanel did her makeup! After seeing the actress's black-and-white floral print dress, celebrity makeup artist Rachel Goodwin decided to "bring elements of a colorful spring garden into the makeup look," she says. After creating a flawless complexion with Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15, she enhanced the eyes with touches of pale pink and shimmer from Quadra Eyeshadow palette in Lilium. She then gave Emma's lashes some TLC by applying Ardel individual lashes and two coats of Inimitable Intense Mascara. Finally, a pop of hot pink—Pure Matte Lipstick in Carthage, to be exact—on the lips tied the whole look together.

Emma Roberts
Emma Roberts decided to don a ladylike Michael Kors gown for the Met Gala, so celebrity makeup artist Dawn Broussard chose to go with "a gleaming, feminine color palette pared with a sophisticated, daring eye," she shares. Using all Neutrogena products, she began by prepping the skin with Oil-Free Moisture and then applied Healthy Skin Compact Make-up and 3-in-1 Concealer to hide any imperfections. On the eyes, she used Nourishing Eye Quad in Butter Creme and Nourishing Eye Liner in Spiced Chocolate, a soft brown shade that complements the lighter coppery hues in the shadow quad. After applying multiple layers of Healthy Lengths Mascara to Emma's lashes, she contoured the cheeks using Healthy Skin Custom Glow Blush & Bronzer in Sunrise Glow. Finally, the makeup was locked in place with Healthy Skin Pressed Powder. Sebastian stylist Thomas Dunkin contributed to Emma's stunning red carpet look by crafting gorgeous, cascading retro-style waves that framed her face beautifully.
He began by slightly dampening the hair and then applied Sebastian Professional Potion 9 Lite throughout the bottom two-thirds of the hair to build texture. He also coated the roots with Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray for added volume. Next, he blew out the hair in big sections, placing each one into pin curls when dry. (Doing this helps smooth the hair so you can get a polished, perfectly groomed finish.) He used a large curling iron on each section, placing the hair back up into a pin curl afterward. Once the hair was completely cooled, he brushed through it with a Mason Pearson brush to create looser, softer waves. To give the style long-lasting hold, he applied Sebastian Professional Shaper Fierce hairspray.

Mia Wasikowska
"After seeing Mia's exquisite Thakoon dress, which was detailed with intricate rosettes, I knew I wanted to create an ultra-feminine, ethereal look by using pretty rosy-peach shades on her eyes, cheeks, and lips," says makeup artist Amy Nadine. Using all Tarte Cosmetics products, she began by blending smooth operator tinted moisturizer in agent 04 over Mia's entire face. Then, using the kabuki brush, she contoured the cheeks, temples, and hairline with park ave princess mineral powder bronzer. Next, she swirled Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in blissful (a warm rosy peach) over the apples of the cheeks and topped it off with provocateur Amazonian clay shimmering powder for instant radiance. She set the look with smooth operator Amazonian clay finishing powder.
For the eyes, Amy gilded Mia's entire lid with lock & roll 12-hour eyeshadow in rose gold and then highlighted the crease with lock & roll 12-hour eyeshadow in quartz, using the roller ball applicator and her fingers to blend the colors upward and outward. She coated the lashes with lights, camera, lashes! clinically-proven natural mascara in black and swiped LipSurgence natural lip luster in glisten onto the lips.

Dree Hemingway
Makeup artist Nico Giulis enhanced Dree Hemingway's natural beauty by giving the model a hint of bronzy glow (try Nars Irresistiblement Bronzer), neutral-hued eyes, major lashes (thanks to Nars Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara), and the tiniest hint of color on the lips (he used Nars Lipstick in Manhunt).

Kristen Stewart
Frederic Fekkai Celebrity Stylist Adir Abergel wanted to create a hair look with lots of fullness and texture for Kristen Stewart. "I started by applying Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel to Kristen's roots to add volume, and then I loosely dried her hair with my hands," he says. "Then I used a 1/2 inch iron to create natural waves and sprayed Fekkai Beach Waves throughout her hair to help it hold the curl. Next, I let her hair fall into a rough middle part and pulled it back into a low chignon. To keep everything in place, I used Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Spray, letting a few pieces fall in front to softly frame her face."
Celebrity makeup artist Beau Nelson decided to give Kristen a striking smoky eye and a nude lip. He used CoverGirl NatureLu Silk Foundation on her skin and then lined her eye twice—first with CoverGirl LiquilineBlast in Black Fire, and then with CoverGirl Line Exact. He blended CoverGirl Smoky ShadowBlast in Onyx Smoke over the eyelid and then balanced out the dark eye with a little blush and Nars highlighter on the cheeks. He finished the look by applying CoverGirl ShineBlast Lip Gloss in Glow.

Blake Lively
Blake Lively's dreamy Chanel dress inspired celebrity makeup artist Vivian Baker to create a "Venus-inspired, sexy and naked look" for the starlet. After prepping the skin with Chanel Sublimage Essential Revitalizing Concentrate, she perfected it with Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 and then lightly camouflaged spots with Guerlain Terracotta Concealer. To create Blake's signature youthful glow, she applied Stila Petunia Blush to the cheeks and dusted Chanel Moisturizing Bronzer Powder along the nose, forehead, and jawline. Becca Mermaid Shimmering Eyeshadow and Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow Palette in Spices were layered onto the lids, and a swipe of Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara amplified the lashes. Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss in Genie completed Blake's look!

Ashley Olsen
Ashley Olsen escaped from Bohemia and embraced Parisian glamour (in vintage Dior Couture, no less!). Molly R. Stern, who also dolled up Mary-Kate, wanted to give Ashley "innocent skin" to contrast her glamorous gown. Her angelic glow is attributed to Nars Blush in Sex Appeal and Copacabana Illuminator, and the rest of the makeup was kept super subtle: just a little eyeliner and a nude pout (try Nars Lip Gloss in Striptease).

Taylor Swift
Celebrity makeup artist Lorrie Turk paired Taylor Swift's porcelain skin with a dazzling deep red lip. Using all CoverGirl products, Turk applied TruConceal Concealer and NatureLu Silk Foundation to the singer's skin and then gave it extra radiance by light dusting on Trublend Minerals Blush in Shimmering Sands. For the eyes, Turk used Eye Enhancers 1-Kit shadows in Golden Sunrise, applying Brown Smolder from her crease to below the brow for "a very natural yet dramatic look" and then using Snow Blossom as a highlighter. She carefully lined the eyes with Liquiline Blast in Brown Blaze and then re-traced the line with Liquiline Blast in Very Black. On the lips, Taylor wore LipPerfection Lipcolor in Tempt.
