Blogger of the Moment: On The Racks

With her ombre locks and penchant for ankle boots, Laura Ellner is the kind of cool girl who pairs Alexander Wang gym shorts with Forever 21 mary-janes and manages to make it work. She embraces a clever mix of high and low, and wears things in a way few would think of. A classic Coach shoulder-bag was recently reimagined as a fanny pack; a fancy pleated minidress was turned into a tunic and worn with Levis cut-offs.
But Laura's blog isn't just about personal-style. The occasional photographer shoots some of the most stylish girls in the Bay Area, and one of the best parts about perusing OnTheRacks isn't her amazing closet or hilarious musings—it's that amazing San Francisco backdrop. This fashionista has an incredible eye, both inside her closet and out, and clicking around her blog will make your rethink your style your residence.

**Who inspires your wardrobe? **
A few of my style icons include Kate Moss, Edie Sedgwick, Alexa Chung and The Olsens! I love their funky, edgy styles.
**What are your personal favorite blogs? **
I read tons and tons of blogs so it is hard to choose. My favorites include Late Afternoon, Atlantic-Pacific and Going West. Liz, Blair and Jennie are all good friends who inspire me daily. Not only do they have serious style skills, but they’re intelligent and kind to boot!

**Any advice for anyone who wants to start her/his own blog? **
Just get started and have fun with it! You don't even need to know exactly what you want your blog to be about... it may take a few months to figure out what you really want to focus on. Go with the flow.
What do you do when you're not blogging?
Work! And on the weekends I love to shop, explore San Francisco, or take my dog Lola to the park.

**What are the best aspects of running your own blog? What are the hardest aspects? **
It pushes me to be creative and really explore my personal style. Also, the community of bloggers here is San Francisco is fantastic—I have made some really amazing friends.
The hardest part is being consistent and finding the time to update regularly. I work full time, as does my boyfriend (who takes my pictures) so sometimes it can be difficult with our schedules!

Are there any trends you are particularly inspired by this season?
I am loving leather everything, faux fur and lots of metallics. Also adding bright pops of color for fall and winter is always fun, and mixing and matching different prints.
What trend from the past would you like to make a comeback?
Overalls! I love them—and am glad to see some popping up in stores here and there.

A great leather jacket and, of course, anything Chanel!

I cannot live without my Rosebud Salve lip balm. Also, mascara. I like to wear loads of mascara. Bad Gal Lash by Benefit and Makeup Forever are my favorites!

Why did you initially decide to start a blog?
I was introduced to the world of blogging when I started working for ShopItToMe.com, where I get to write posts about fun, fashion-y things, designer sales and what not. I have really enjoyed it but also wanted my own creative outlet where I could say whatever I want and really be myself! It has been fun to go the personal style route with OnTheRacks.
