However, there was once a time when she was more focused on acting than singing. Perhaps that’s how she got to be so…confident? Corny jokes aside, she’s acted alongside the world’s favorite purple dinosaur, costarred with Selena Gomez, and has even played herself once or twice in some magical cameos. She and former bestie Selena Gomez rose to fame on Barney. You know, the show that stars a bunch of kids and a huge purple puppet. 10-year-old Demi played herself, and was adorable during her stint on the show.
2/9Camp Rock
The movie that put Demi on the map! She starred alongside the Jonas Brothers, forever cementing their bond as lifelong tour mates, and truly marched to the beat of her own drum in the film. Lovato played the spunky Mitchie Torres who has to go all in or nothing if she wants to make it as a professional singer—looks like things turned out OK for her IRL counterpart.
3/9Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience
Although it wasn’t exactly a cinematic masterpiece [ed. note: it totally was] this Jonas Brothers-centric documentary was a fun movie to watch with your friends. Demi is featured as herself as she performs her hit song “This is Me" from Camp Rock.

In case you’ve forgotten, Princess Protection Program was only one of the greatest Disney Channel Original movies of all time. Starring Demi as Princess Rosalinda María Montoya Fiore, the movie’s about a princess who is flown to America and goes into hiding when her country is in danger. Rosalinda happens to be placed at the house of a lovable tomboy (played by none other than Selena Gomez) and the two eventually form a close friendship despite their differences. D’aww.
5/9Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam
Once you go to Camp Rock, you can’t experience a normal summer. At least, that’s what Mitchie and her friends realize as they return to the musically-inclined summer camp. A rival camp, Camp Star, has opened up across the lake, which causes problems for the campers and counselors alike. Will Camp Rock be able to stay open? If Demi and the Jo Bros have anything to do with it, heck yes it will.
6/9Sonny with a Chance
During the early aughts, The Disney Channel could not get enough Demi on their lineup. She played Sonny Munroe, the titular character at the heart of Sonny with a Chance. Sonny’s selected as the newest cast member on her favorite variety show So Random! and hams it up on screen perfectly. This was the show that provided Demi with the platform she needed to shine and show off her comedy chops.
