When and why did you first decide to start your channel?
I started it a little over a year ago just as a hobby. I'm in a very studios program at school, so I was watching videos as a way to relax in my down time, but once I discovered the beauty community, I was hooked. Initially, I was too shy to actually contribute, but I began by posting comments. Now it has become a very important part of my life.
What's your beauty philosophy?
I don't necessarily think being beautiful has anything to do with how much makeup you wear, how long your hair is, or how many outfits you can afford to own. I think a girl just has to feel comfortable in her own skin. That confidence will shine through, and people will definitely notice.

Where do you get ideas or inspiration for your tutorials?
I get most of my inspiration from television, movies, and music videos. I actually came up with some of my more unique tutorials from the habit of playing with my hair. Quite a few of my videos were also created for the sheer purpose of getting my thick hair out of the way while still making me look cute and polished!
Who are a few of your favorite vloggers and why do you love their channels?
My favorites are the ones I watched long before I started my own channel: Pursebuzz, Gossmakeupartist, Michellephan, and Lisaeldridgedotcom. They have consistently high quality material, and they’re always so bright and happy in their videos. I’ve also made a few YouTube friends through StyleHaul, like MsLaBelleMel, Beautycakez, and Cyexquisite. I love watching their videos to interact with them and to try and stay up-to-date on their lives.

What’s in your makeup bag right now?
Hard Candy Glamoflauge, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish, Carmex Lip Balm, Jack Black Lip Balm, Maybelline New York Baby Lips, Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette, Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler, Lancôme High Definicils Mascara, NYX Mocha Blush and a whole bunch of MAC, YSL, NYX, Revlon, and L’Oréal Paris lipsticks are floating at the bottom.
What’s your favorite hairstyle to create?
Lately, I’ve been wearing loose curls almost everyday just because it’s simple to create in the morning while still appearing like I spent a lot of time on them. I also love to wear high buns and braided updos—as I’m sure you can tell from my hair tutorials!

What was the hardest tutorial you've ever filmed and why?
The hardest tutorial to film was probably my basket interwoven 11-strand braid. I can't see the back of my head when I'm filming tutorials and this hairstyle was very intricate, so it was a little tricky making sure I was picking up the right sections of hair.
Do you have advice for a reader who wants to start a channel?
Pick a couple of areas to focus on and jump right in. Stay active in social media to keep updated on trends and events, and use that to build a stronger connection with your future viewers. It's also very beneficial for smaller channels to join one of the networks on YouTube. I am signed with StyleHaul and they've featured me in numerous videos and have helped to increase my viewership and subscriber base. Most importantly, don't be discouraged with a few mean comments, take them as constructive criticism and allow the suggestions to help improve your channel.
