Heading on a Road Trip? Pack These YA Page-Turners

Road trips are long. Road trips without a stack of good books by your side? Even longer. So before you embark on a cross-country expedition with your family or friends, pop by a bookstore and stock up on a bunch of hardbacks to keep you busy when you hit the highways.
Ahead, check out four nail-biters that'll keep you on the edge of your seat (hypothetically speaking, of course, because backseats are tiny!).

Mary-Kate and Ashley's classic flick Our Lips Are Sealed may have led you to believe that being in the Witness Protection Program is awesome; this book cleverly proves otherwise. Picture having more fake identities than friends, being unable to let your crush discover the real you, and, on top of it all, not even knowing why you and your family are on the run in the first place. If you're having a boring summer, this novel will make you appreciate your drama-free days—and your pleasantly normal parents.

Think fairy tales are just for kids? Think again. In this stirring read, one unsuspecting high school boy is haunted by the ghost of Jacob Grimm. You know, of The Brothers Grimm? You know, of fables like Cinderella and Snow White? Yeah, that guy. This weird and wonderful tale will impress the Lit teacher who gave you a mile-long summer reading list and your big brother who always teases you about reading girlie books. (Just don't let him steal it before you get to the ending!)

Sure, Thirteen Reasons Why has been around for a few years. But unlike clothes, books don’t go out of style and this gripping novel—which touches on suicide, bullying, love, friendship, and other important issues that everyone ever can relate to—is just as noteworthy now as it was back in 2011. If you haven’t read this gem, you must—and stat. And if you have? Pick it up again so you can be well-versed when Selena Gomez (reportedly!) stars in the movie adaptation in a few years.

Still mourning the demise of Lost? Then you'll seriously dig this sci-fi plane-crash story that will make you actually glad you're stuck in a car with your annoying brother instead of up in the air. As the lone survivor of an aircraft disaster, one teenage girl suffers a major bout of amnesia and can't remember anything or anyone from her pre-catastrophe life—especially that suspicious cute guy claiming to be her boyfriend. Should she trust him? That's up to her—and the reader—to figure out.
