Billie Eilish Revisits Her Past Looks in Barbie’s “What Was I Made For” Video — See Them All Here
Billie Eilish is looking back at some of her most iconic 'fits — but in miniature. In the new music video for her song “What Was I Made For” from the Barbie soundtrack, which she directed herself, Eilish revisits some of her most notable looks in Barbie-size.
The video begins with Billie Eilish dressed like a vintage Barbie in a buttercup yellow skirt suit, matching earrings, and a bouncing curled ponytail with retro bangs. She sits down at a desk and opens a Barbie case, revealing mini outfits one by one and hanging them on a doll clothing rack. As she arranges the clothes, she battles wind and rain trying to knock her off balance; Eilish struggles to save the museum of her past from the elements.
The song itself is a quiet, introspective ballad about figuring out your purpose in the world and struggling with your true identity, and Eilish's use of clothing as a metaphor for who she was and who she will be is sentimental and meaningful without being sappy. It's obvious she's taken great care to highlight these ensembles as pivotal moments from her journey and loves these mini versions of herself even as she continues to grow and change.
But what are these looks she's referencing? Just like the musician herself, we took a little trip down memory lane for clues. See some of the 'fits featured in Billie Eilish's “What Was I Made For" below, then watch the touching video in its entirety.
