What Your Favorite 'Mean Girls' Character Says About You
We are ever-so-grateful to the writing team of Mean Girls (AKA, Rosalind Wiseman and Tina Fey) for giving us that infamous “October 3rd” line. In less than 10 seconds of dialogue, they unknowingly created a holiday. They probably had no idea at the time that fans of the movie would later dub Oct. 3 as the annual Mean Girls Day.
TBH, we don’t really need an excuse to celebrate Mean Girls, as it is pretty timeless. The jokes never get old, and the references will probably be relevant until the end of time. We’ll always be able to find an excuse to yell (or tweet), “SHE DOESN’T EVEN GO HERE.” But one of the best things about Mean Girls is the characters. From Cady, to Regina, to Janis, the creative team of this film gave us some fictional gold. So, in honor of the 12th annual Mean Girls Day, here’s exactly what your favorite character says about you.
- 1/12
Cady Heron
If Cady is your fave, you’re probably fiercely loyal to your friends. Sure, you might make mistakes from time to time, but at the end of the day, you follow through with compassion and empathy. You relate to the fact that Cady doesn’t always make the best choices – but it’s simply because she’s human.
Classic Cady Quote: “Calling somebody else fat won't make you any skinnier. Calling someone stupid doesn't make you any smarter. And ruining Regina George's life definitely didn't make me any happier. All you can do in life is try to solve the problem in front of you.”
- 2/12
Regina George
You were either a Queen Bee in high school or you longed to become one. You appreciate Regina’s ruthlessness even though you’d probably be somewhat afraid of her IRL. Additionally, if you connect with Regina, you’re probably a good leader. Even if that means you’d rule with an iron fist.
Classic Regina Quote: “I CAN'T GO TO TACO BELL, I'M ON AN ALL-CARB DIET.”
- 3/12
Gretchen Weiners
You know what it’s like to be a sidekick, and it’s especially hard in a group of three friends. When you’re in a tight-knit trio, it’s easy for someone to quickly feel left out (hence Gretchen’s Caesar/Brutus rant.) Ultimately, Gretchen just wanted to be in Regina’s good graces. You relate to her desire to be liked, and maybe also her socialite status as the daughter of the founder of Toaster Strudel.
Classic Gretchen Quote: “Ex-boyfriends are just off-limits to friends. I mean that's just like the rules of feminism.”
- 4/12
Karen Smith
Karen comes off as, um, not-so-intelligent, but as it turns out, there’s lots of different ways to be smart. Not everyone can be on the math team or get As in English. You relate to Karen’s struggle to keep up with her peers, and, if all else fails, at least she’s pretty hilarious. If Karen’s your favorite character, you’re probably someone who doesn’t take life too seriously and likes to have fun.
Classic Karen Quote: “Gretchen, I'm sorry I laughed at you that time you got diarrhea at Barnes & Noble. … And I'm sorry for telling everyone about it. … And I'm sorry for repeating it now.”
- 5/12
Janis Ian
Janis wasn’t afraid to be different from everyone else, and that’s part of what made her so awesome. She embraced her individuality and prided herself on not conforming to the “rules” of the popular group. If Janis is your girl, you probably didn’t roll with the in-crowd at high school – and that’s OK. Popularity isn’t everything, especially when you have amazing friends like Damian and Cady.
Classic Janis Quote: “I love seeing teachers outside of school. It's like seeing a dog walk on its hind legs.”
- 6/12
Damian
Damian provides some serious comic relief, but he’s also a good friend. He proves himself super loyal to Janis, and sticks by her side when she fights with Cady. Damian’s also not afraid to tell it like it is. If you’re anything like him, you’re bold, honest, and maybe a little too blunt at times.
Classic Damian Quote: “That's why her hair is so big, it's full of secrets.”
- 7/12
Aaron Samuels
We’re willing to wager a bet that if Aaron is your favorite character, it’s just because of his good hair. He still has good hair, BTW, and it still looks amazing pushed back. He also has really good eyebrows now. Aaron ended up being a really nice guy, even if he was bad at math.
Classic Aaron Quote: “What day is it?” (Obviously.)
- 8/12
Mrs. George
Mrs. George is not a regular mom, she’s a cool mom, and if she’s your favorite ... well, maybe you wished you grew up with a mom as cool as Mrs. G. Or maybe you did grow up with a mom like Mrs. G. and you can appreciate her efforts to fit in with her teenage daughter. Either way, it’s hard not to have a soft spot for her!
Classic Mrs. George Quote: “Can I get you guys anything? Some snacks? A condom? Let me know! Oh, God love ya.”
- 9/12
Principal Duvall
We have to give Principal Duvall credit for managing the chaos that surrounded the Burn Book drama. If he’s your favorite character, you’re probably pretty tough yourself – although maybe not tough enough to stand up to Regina (since he, too, was personally victimized by her).
Classic Principal Duvall Quote: “I just wanted to say that you're all winners. And that I couldn't be happier the school year is ending.”
- 10/12
Ms. Norbury
Despite the fact that Ms. Norbury had to deal with her divorce and accusations of being a drug dealer, she also strived to be a role model for her students. Her speech toward the end of the movie probably resonated with you, and her words about bullying are actually really important for people of all ages – especially when it comes to our words online. If she’s your favorite, you probably dream of being a teacher one day and want to make a difference in other people’s lives.
- 11/12
Kevin Gnapoor
Kevin made math cool. If he’s your ultimate character, you probably love geeking out about algebra and geometry. You wish others understood how important – and fun – math can actually be.
Classic Kevin Quote: “I'm a mathlete, so nerd is inferred, but forget what you heard, I'm like James Bond the third, sh-sh-sh-shaken not stirred – I'm Kevin Gnapoor!”
