The Best Spring 2011 Looks for Every Occasion

Prom Dress
Erdem is consistently one of my favorite designers, and his dresses thrilled me yet again and I'd pick his dresses for each category if I could. However, I'm going to stick with this red lace mini dress for my prom pick. I'd belt it with a studded belt to make it a bit less "pretty", and add a super high black shoe and be ready to hit the dance floor.

Birthday Party
It's my party and I'll wear a neon mini dress if I want to. This Proenza Schouler day-glo crochet dress is the perfect dress for turning a year older, but feeling young enough to party the night away. I will say the photo does it no justice, in person this dress is jaw dropping electric. I'd add a wrist of my own bracelets and a platform heel to complete the look.

Winning an Oscar
Sure I'm not nominated for an Academy Award, but naturally I'd like to imagine what I'd wear as I blew a kiss and waved on the red carpet. Perhaps inspired by Sharon Stone's Gap white blouse look, this simple white tee and bold kelly green ball gown skirt look is a top pick. Red carpet critics would likely rip the look to shreds, but with a fine jewelry statement earring (I'm thinking the stunning emerald earrings from Prada Resort a few seasons back), I'd feel like a winner before I even accepted my award. Unconventional? Yes, but would put me at ease.

First Date
I'm the first to admit I lack the "cool girl" swagger that most girls can pull off for a first date. However, I make no apologies for my feminine style and always find a way to make it work for a night out. A soft little dress paired with a tough leather jacket is often the perfect mix and this season, Christopher Bailey delivers just that. Warning, this jacket has fierce studs, proceed with caution when going in for that first date kiss.

Guy's First Date Pick
Girls dress for girls, and many of my must haves for Spring 2011 wouldn't be a guy's first choice. So I checked in with one of the boys in my life for his top pick. NYC DJ Mike Nouveau knows how to make girls party on the dance floor, and he is also well versed in fashion, so I trusted his opinion when I asked what his pick would be for his girl to wear on a first date. I was pleased when he picked this confidence boosting long and lean black leather look from Rad Hourani. It's a good thing that lots of girls love to wear black leather pants, because the guys like it too. This look is easy to replicate, and the good news is, the shoes are actually a collaboration with Aldo! Though I'd probably leave the sunglasses at home, pairing this with a strong red lip and a smile will likely mean a call for a second date.

First Day of School
Michael Kors' laid back California cool collection conveys style without trying to hard. I love the ease of this thin rib knit top with this bright green skirt for hitting the books. I'd pair it with my Converse that got me through the summer to play it cool and stash my notebooks in the slouchy brown leather bag.

Job Interview
Interviewing for a job in the fashion industry requires proving you are ahead of the curve with trends, and well read in the current events in the fashion industry via both your interview and your physical presentation. The Rag & Bone show for Spring was one of New York's most talked about shows. David Neville and Marcus Wainright's very forward collection took risks by pairing techno treatments with feminine details and lingerie influence. This statement skirt and simple silk blouse ensemble proves you recognize an underlying twisted feminine trend for the season and that you are willing to take a risk, but also manages to be professional and chic.

Dream Wedding Dress
A white lace dress is my sartorial weakness, so this category left me swooning over endless options, especially since this season was busting at the seams with white lace and eyelet. I'd probably shock a few guests with this leggy number, but this lace and crystal encrusted Dolce & Gabbana mini dress would be my pick to say I do. Luckily for everyone dropping their jaw at my out of the ordinary pick, exchanging vows is not happening for me anytime soon.

Watching the Big Game
I may work in fashion but I'm a not-so-secret sports fan too. Despite eye rolls and comments from my dad and brother that most sporting events are 'not fashion shows', cheering on my favorite teams doesn't stop me from dressing in style. Come Spring when Shipley & Halmos line hits the stores and the NBA Playoffs and MLB season are heating up I'd love to watch the game in the stands in this bright little floral mini skirt and preppy button up oord.
