Lindsey of BeautyBaby44: Beauty Blogger of the Moment
Lindsey's channel, BeautyBaby44, is a must-watch for product lovers. She posts videos about makeup, skincare, nail polish, and hair care items that she loves—and even some that she didn't like as much. When she reviews something, you know you're getting her honest opinion and you'll also be able to see her use her favorites in videos to come. When Lindsey films a tutorial, she's careful to mention every product by name and display its packaging prominently before demonstrating how to use it. In addition to hauls, monthly favorites, and tutorials, the beauty guru also has a twenty two minute-long video on her makeup collection that will have you running to the nearest beauty counter to buy a nail polish—or ten!

When and why did you first decide to start your channel?
In April of 2010, after about five months of watching other beauty gurus, I decided I wanted to upload a video. It was a very impulsive choice to start my channel, but it was the best decision I've ever made.
What's your beauty philosophy?
I think we're all beautiful in our own way. Makeup just enhances natural beauty and shouldn't be used to cover it up. Everyone has something unique about them that makes their beauty radiate!
Where do you get ideas or inspiration for your tutorials?
I get ideas from my viewers. I really try to do videos that are commonly requested, so I know it's something they want to see. If I'm wearing a certain makeup or hair look in a video and I see many comments asking for a tutorial on it, I instantly put that on my video to-do list. As for inspiration, I really like doing celebrity-inspired looks and tutorials based on the season we're in. Just like clothing trends change every season, so do makeup trends.

Besides vlogging, what's a typical day like for you?
I'm currently a senior in high school, so I go to school five days a week. Luckily, this year I get to leave early, which gives me loads of free time. I'm a typical teenage girl, so you can usually find me at the mall or movie theater on the weekends. I've loved to dance since I was little, so I take jazz and tap classes every week. Other than that, my life pretty much consists of YouTube!
What's in your makeup bag right now?
My school must-haves! I have my current nail polish color in case I get a chip, Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets, a Sephora mirror, Bath & Body Works hand sanitizer and mini lotion, MAC Studio Finish Concealer, and a Fresh Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment.
What three beauty products do you find yourself buying over and over again?
Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes (I know, boring, but so essential for me), Urban Decay Primer Potion, and the Neutrogena SkinClearing Foundation—it's my favorite!

What's your favorite hairstyle to create?
A top knot! It's an extremely versatile hairstyle because they can look casual or fancy. I wear a top knot to dance class to keep my hair completely up and out of my face, but I also wear one with a dressy outfit and a pair of statement earrings to look chic and polished. Also, if you're having a bad hair day, just throw it up in a top knot and you'll look instantly put together.
What was the hardest tutorial you've ever filmed and why?
In the spring, I was in a competition called the NYX Face Awards. One of the challenges that we had to complete was an '80s look and it was a ton of work! First, I had to research and come up with my look. Filming was the most stressful part because it involved several bright colors. I typically stick to neutral looks, so I wasn't sure how it would turn out. After a few hours of editing, I ended up being really happy with it!

How do you balance school, a social life, and your channel?
Time management is key when you have a YouTube channel. The biggest thing that helps me keep up with my videos is pre-filming and editing. I set aside a day every week that I dedicate to filming and editing. I typically will make two to four videos at that time. This method is extremely helpful if you're in school because you don't have to worry about videos after a long day of classes and homework. Doing this allows me to have my videos ready for the upcoming week, and all I have to do is upload them! I'm able to upload videos every other day, focus on schoolwork during the week, and spend time on the weekends with friends.
Do you have advice for a reader that wants to start a channel?
If you want to make videos, go for it! Deciding to start my channel was truly the best decision I've ever made, and I've never once regretted it. Also, understand that it takes time to build an audience. Try to show your personality from the start, have the best lighting and camera quality you can, and know that starting a channel is a huge commitment. If this is something you want to do, don't let anything or anyone stop you. You can do it!
