9 Celebs You Didn’t Know Were Vegetarians
October 1 is World Vegetarian Day, a global holiday to celebrate people who don't eat animal products, typically meat, for religious, health, personal, or animal cruelty reasons. Around 7.3 million Americans are vegetarians in the U.S., roughly 3.2% of the nation's adult population, while another 22.8 million people consider themselves "vegetarian-inclined," meaning they eat little meat compared to other people. Even more amazing, over half of vegetarians have stuck to their no-meat diets for over a decade.
Why do so many people choose vegetarian and vegan diets? In addition to fighting animal cruelty and religious beliefs, there may be some health reasons for restricting meat product intake. While there's a lot of science on both sides supporting and opposing vegetarianism, some research suggests that abstaining from meat products could lead to lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
Given how prominent vegetarianism is and how many health benefits people claim it has, it should come as no surprise that lots of celebrities are vegetarian, too. Who's a veggie? Click through to to find out.
